Recommended Posts

Hello!

As most of you are probaly aware more and more dogs are being stolen. I was just wondering if there is anything out there that would prevent this? I looked at a Retrieva one but found them rather expensive. Can anyone help me?

Thanks in advance

At the moment the best devices to use worldwide are GSM devices, these are mobile phone technology, they will give an indication as to where the dog is anywhere in the world, but if you are looking for an exact location it would be dependent on the mobile phone network which is most reliable, also it would be more dependant on the device still being securely attached to the dog,

As an example Microchipping a dog can be taken a stage further,by microchipping a dog with SIM based microchips all you would need to do is dial the Sim CARD NUMBER,and the location would reveal the rough whereabouts of the dog, there would of course be some obstacles presented by the thieves and these would be to prevent reception of Gsm connections,

I have looked into this a little myself these tracking devices apparently cannot be implanted like a microchip because to send and receive satellite and telecom signals a power source is required, so with recharging or replacement necessary it just would not be practical. Retrieva system does look good though as if someone took the dog maybe they would not realise it was fitted with a tracking collar right away. It may give you enough time to find the animal; is mighty expensive though.

Can anyone elabourate on these devices please as to their costings and availability...Cheers..

Jon,i think the Retrieva system is about £199 for collar and charger and then £11 a month subscription fee not cheap but looks very clever stuff.I was considering it for when dogs are in their run not really for out on the land
