theferreter 311
the mk3m is the best on the market but the mk1 isnt bad either Quote Link to post
jigsaw 11,891
no comparison,mk3 is a top piece of kit.takes a little practice to get the hang of but miles better than the mk1.I got my mk3 and gave my mk1 away to a mate for free, never regretted it. Quote Link to post
chrisnick 1
ive got a mk3 took a bit of getting use to but now ive got the hang of it its a great bit of kit, never used a mk1 though Quote Link to post
-=Magwitch=- 29
if they made an updated MK1 with the MK3M collars you could have the best of both worlds.................... Quote Link to post
shamus 36
I use mk3 and my mate has mk1 but he wants a mk3 now, great piece of kit. Quote Link to post
Brimmer 220
Have seen mk 3's used but never used one myself. They seem to do the job, and everyone that has used them seems pleased with them. Dont like the noise that comes out of one to be honest. (Sure the purists will frown at the noise too!) Can you turn the noise off? Here's the downside. You used to be able to pick a new mk1 set up for well below a hundred quid, (I know time has moved on, but the prices of most electrical equipment over the last 10 years has stayed the same or dropped.) wheras the mk3 is way above the reaches of a kid starting up in the game, and some lads who are short on cash. I'm sure one day some firm in China will bring out a finder (Maybee not for ferrets) but it will happen, and i'm sure many will adapt it, for a fraction of the cost. I will eventually have to get a mk 3, until then, i'll continue to use the last of the mk 1's we have, the 7 collars (2 of them brand new in there packets). In short, expensive bit of kit for what it is, but worth it. Think the question you need to ask really is, if they were both the same price and both open for service, which would you choose? With Debens hold on the market, the mk3 is the only way at present. Quote Link to post

fensaluki 35
They both do the job perfectly well mate. I have and use both and I truly beleive they perform to a very simlar standard. The collars for the mrk3 are far better in my opinion but I find that my mrk1 "knocker boxs" tend to be more honest when it comes to depth measuring. Both have good points and bad but I have to admit although I love my old mrk1s I think if your going to by a locater the smart money would have to be on a mrk3 as the mrk1 is getting old now and less reliable for that reason. But having said that I never go out without a knocker box with me for back up. ATB Quote Link to post

stealthy1 3,964
I have to agree with Brimmer on the cost, they're well out of most folks range, so if your just setting up the MK1 is cheap to get you going, but if your on your next locator, then I'd go for the MK3m, the problem with the MK1's is they're old and staring to break down, to me the MK3 is better, I've had two MK1's and neither would locate any nearer than a foot, maybe it was just the one's I had, but the MK3 locates down to six inches every time, and the best thing my MK2 ever did was die Quote Link to post

borntoshoot 1
Sorry to hijack the thread but if anyone has a MK1 with 1 collar i can have/buy please pm me. and to add something to this thread my mates that i ferret with (because they have the locator and i dont) had a mk2 and they gave that away because they said it was crap and they use the mk1 now.
