I would take the money and put it up somewhere safe........then give him it back when he least expects it. That way he will learn his lesson.......but you can repay his thoughtfulness as well

i think ryan will have learned a real hard lesson , to be very carefull in future, as he's a hard working lad, i'd appreciate it if you gave him back the money he so kindly gave as a part payment for the vets bill-----------it also shows just how kind and considerate a boy you have.

Say what you mean, and mean what you say.

I would take the money and put it all towards the vets fee's then show him the final bill and tell him he is lucky that £80 is all he has to pay.

The money for the vets bill has to come from somewhere, someone has to work for that money, and as he disregarded your advice and took the dogs out it is his responsabilty. Hopefuly it will be a quick but expensive learning curve for him.

About the boots, you should have put wellies on before going across a field. Your fault there.

Keep the money. Mum's tend to go soft when they see a bit of pain in their boy's eye. But, with boys, if you won't go on with what you said they will run over you. They'll still love you and everything, you just will be no use to him.

Your job is to prepare him for the world. If he did that with someone else dog would Mummy pay for him then to avoid him feeling any discomfort or would Mum show him how to face up to the consequences of his actions.

At 15 he is half boy and half man. Which half sticks depends on you and which half you deal with. If you want him to be a man, treat him as one.

If you want him to stay a boy, give him the money back...but you know that will actually be about making you feel good not him.

Good bloke though for ponying up some money.

Honestly though I'd be focussed less on the money and more on the injury to the dog. More guilt in that I reckon...

Good luck.

Cheers.

Tracey,

When you get the final bill, don't pay it on the card pay it with cash and take him with you, let him see how much money his foolishness has cost. Let him pay his part of the bill, he sounds like a good lad and I am sure it will be a lesson that will really stick in his mind.
