the organism, that causes the disease leptospirea, has about 7 or 8 varients of the disease, and although there are vacines available for one or two of the most common strains, just because the dog is vacinated against these does not gaurentee immunity to the other strains. so the guy could have in theory been up to date with his dogs jabs :(:(

Ditto, the vaccines dont cover all the strains of weils. & it is due to the vaccine being dodgy (for weils) that the pups are jabbed twice at the vets.

Hey DF, If your dog is sensitive to penicillin try using cotrimoxazole, a combination of sulphamethoxazole (a sulphur compound) and trimethoprim (which is not sulphur based). it works on both Gram negative and gram positive infections, it might work for your dog , also if he's chewed up and exhausted instead of giving him water straight off give him some water soluble Electrolytes, and also have water available once you've given him the Electrolytes( the minerals and salts make them thirsty ) this will dramatically improve his recovery, the farm shops sell Electrolytes its used for calves scouring and its pretty cheap , hope this helps
