I thought it took a couple of weeks to kill them but by the time you notice the symptoms its too late? A mate of mine caught one poxy rat with a young terrier of his then the week after had 2 digs to the dog and while he was inside recuperating he turned yellow. I didn't see the dog but my mate said that the whole dog looked yellow inc his fur (it was a russel). Not a nice thing to happen anyway. Keep them vaccinated and I think exposure to the shit that rats carry helps build an immunity, my dogs been doing rats in some grotty places since about 5 month old and he's never even swelled from a bite.

Obviously the dog was not injected so nobodys fault but his own,but at the end of the day its only a dog.could have been worse he could have got it himself it also kills people.A friend of mine kissed a golf ball a few years ago after a good shot(I dont play golf)and he contacted it and died.

thought you had to come in contact with it,on a open wound or bite
