My little lurcher caught a pheasant...She scented him right up to a bush, and when she got level with him he tried to fly up and away, She nabbed him about 3f off the ground, class! Sorley x 32
My dog regularly catches pheasants his favorite way of hunting them is to work up a scent trail in cover and then position himself so he can pounce on them before they fly. He loves it. Another bitch I had would also take all manner of birds in the local park, where they aren't that wise to dogs lol. Bit embarrassing really. sambam 8
my pup has had a few pheasnt but he misses most of them, he had a blackbird once it was amazing to watch we where walking down a lane with hedges on both sides one foggy morning and there was blackbirds everywere and he was running back and forth chasing them when one flew out the hedge right in front of him and was flying straight down the path, he put his head down and stepped up a gear and nailed it in flight, i was gobsmacked but the little bugger didnt retrive it. iv been taking him on the local playing field on the morning and theres always flocks of gulls and crows and he will chase them all day if i let him they seem to tease the dog by staying low and just out of reach he tries his hardest and is fun to watch him flat out. il try and get a video one time atb sam Quote Link to post

iceman001979 1,316
My two dogs have never caught any birds but in the summer l found away off keeping them fit and l be doing it with the pups this year. In the summer house martins come over till lreland and when am walking the dogs in the park the birds are flying low over the football pitches feeding the flys etc and when they come low the dogs love chasing them dont even have till walk them just sit on the bank watching. Some off the runs wounld last as long as a run on the lamp good stuff but it does drive the dogs abit nuts but all good. gnipper 6,411
Its difficult not to catch pheasant and partridge where I am. My old whippet took a woodie in flight once that was skimming the ground and i've caught loads of partridge at night but thats not too hard, we catch them by hand sometimes. My present lurcher has had pheasant, french and english partridge and a pricked duck. Quote Link to post

nasher1 258
I used to have a staffy bitch which used to catch ferals in a local park, could be quite embaressing but interesting to watch, she used to spot the birds blindside em behind a tree to build her speed up and whip round the tree and smash into em, first time she did it i thought it was luck but after the 3rd n 4th time I decided to go to a park with thinner trees Quote Link to post
