jrt 0
Just wondering if any of you guys take or have taken terriers lamping.I have been lamping with guns for a few years but was wondering if our new jack russel would be able to catch a bunny or two with the lamp? Quote Link to post
4x4hunter 0
wouldnt be fast enough unless you put dynamite up its backside Quote Link to post
wuyang 513
If its the only dog you have got why not give it ago, it will probably yap like mad and scare the rest in the field away..may also put its nose down and continue hunting up and lack speed to take 99% of them and also struggle to see the rabbit due to not been very tall, but if you fancy doing it give it ago. cumbrian-whippet 1
Would probably take a few squatters but that would be about it i think Quote Link to post
runforyourlife 361
Wow, i hope tjhis was trick question, lol... Nice 1 JRT, and a doubt very much that the terrier would even take squatters, it wouldnt see them. You get down on the floor and put your eye at a terreirs level in the lamp, see if you can see a squatter... Quote Link to post

If the grass was short and it wasn't a tiny russell it might see it, but anyway it wouldn't hurt to try it as long as you don't buy a lamp just for this and don't expect much :vava: Quote Link to post

Top Lamper 2k10 169
sounds a bit daft mate a jackrussel catching rabbits on the lamp Quote Link to post
bullmastiff 615
It can be done but think of it more as a fun night out with your dog rather than a rabbiting trip and don't do it on land you intend to run properly later on, as you'll mainly just be educating the Rabbits to the lamp. They yap like crazy when chasing but will crash through the hedge after the Rabbit, this is where their likely to catch them. I've got a clip here of when I took the Farmers sister and her fiance Lamping for a laugh with their Parsons Russell. It's crap quailty and right at the end of the beam but you can just about make out what's happening. Roo then starts to Retrieve Rabbit and Terrier back to us! They loved it and have been out with their Terrier several times since. It keeps the Terrier fit and they have fun watching their dog enjoy itself. If you have no other way to get out lamping then you might as well get out for a bit of fun. Quote Link to post
