Deker 3,478
Who knows where I should be putting this but lets start here!! Came across these today, about 200 of them in a field...yes..they were farmed!!! They are about the same size as a Roe, perhaps just a bit smaller, they are a non native species that's for sure, even though they do look a bit Roe like as well! I'm OK with UK deer but around the world I get a bit lost, there are an awful lot of varieties. Anyway, grabbed the picture quickly on the phone, I know it's not up to much, but anyone got any idea just what these are. Cheers Quote Link to post

Deker 3,478
Looks like Fallow Does to me ? fallow mate Yep, I would tend to agree, but I first came across these 6-8 months ago and they do not appear to have grown at all, still a bit smaller than a Roe! They have a winter coat on at the moment which makes them "fluff" up a bit!! Having mentioned these in the past to a couple of people it was time to take a picture whilst the foliage was bare! Deker 3,478
deker i say fallow but fk know's try ask the farmer atb sounder I hear what everyone is saying, and they certainly do look like them, which is precisely why I didn't say fallow! My fault for not getting good pictures, you would see the differences then, and a horse was in the field as well which made them look tiny! They are not a current UK native species, anyone know of any relations of the fallow?? I may well have to ask the man next time I'm in the area, just don't like to be beaten, even if they are some foreign species! Cheers all Quote Link to post
HUnter_zero 58
Most farmed deer will either be red or fallow, so I suspect the deer would in fact be fallow. However IIRC Rusa Deer can be farmed but I would doubt this to be the case as the UK isn't very hospital for the species and there are other complications which would make farming them not economical. Can you get a better photo? John Quote Link to post
