I have read some balls on this forum lately, but this ranks right up there with the worst. Dobermanns are used in a multitude of arenas, a lot of them due to their high prey drive. I would agree with you had you stated that the nasty unstable streak has been bred out and they may not resemble the breed from 60 years ago. I would agree with you if you said, don't try and make a name for yourself by breeding what you hope is the next generation of super lurchers. I would agree with you if you stated that although dobermanns are an athletic, deceptively fast dog, they do not possess the attributes necessary for fast acceleration. Cross it with a grey and you may get 1 or 2 pups thrown correctly. The rest........... I have two dobes and I have taken them lamping. Good fun and an exciting change to my whippets. But it was a bit like lamping with highly driven wildebeast. No acceleration, no turn and defo no finess. Anyone who thinks that a dobe x lurcher or x grey would make a decent altenative to whats already proven and available needs their head examined. Quote Link to post

longdog13 36
Must be a professional then? Transversely, i have seen a pure Doby bitch working fairly well, obviously it was no threat to a working lurcher, but she done fairly well on the lamp She was a well built wee thing, kind of like a whippet grey cross type, very lithe, You never no mate, might work out for you. But i wont have a dig, i'm no professional All the best, LD13 Quote Link to post
wrowmon 1
good god only asked if anyone had seen a doberman x lurcher before and dave has a dig must be something about someone working with what they have rather than rushing out to buy a NAMED bred lurcher. as for deed done shows how much you know dave i did not do the deed a lurcher dog did,i have a bad hip can't get that low.. skellyb 8
dave i did not state i was breeding a super dog i just wanted a litter of pups from my bitch and did not want to cross her with a doberman and wanted a lurcher. now we enter forum world .. thanks for the replies will post pic's when litter arrive.. plus a pick of the first wild pig the pups bring down at 3 weeks to prove dave wrong.. If you wanted a lurcher it would have made more sense to get a lurcher rather than breeding something that only YOU want. What do you intend doing with the pups YOU don't want cos the dogs homes are full enough as it is without bloody idiots "breeding" more unwanted dogs? Quote Link to post
wrowmon 1
skelly am no idiot mate as my doberman works well to rabbit, rat hunts up snipe and other game to the gun (i also have two other gundogs esp and esp lab cross)i wanted to cross her not buy a dog for silly money have two people who are deffo taking a pup any left over will be advertised and if not sold will be kept.not selling them for silly money unlike a load of doberman puppies worth £700 each and then letting them go for peanuts because no one wants to buy them. chirst if a so called name in the lurcher world bred a doberman x and it appeared in a mag people like you who can't think for yourself would proclaim the secound coming and rush out to buy one. i will look after these pups as well as i can so please do not judge me by your standards... AKeeNShoT 5
hi mate ive seen a pair of doby x g/hounds work when i was starting out 30ish year ago it was an unplaned mateing the g/hound only had 3pups one went to a pet home and the pair the lad kept and worked them on fox and deer plus the odd rabbit outing they did ok on bunnys day/night but made very short work of fox so i was told how ever on deer i seen the catches he bought home hanging in his shed the owner of these dogs said they would use sent during the day to flush deer.he also said one of the dogs would bark while on the chase the other did not. they both took the build of the g/hound and had black and tan markings like the doby i think if your breeding for youself then why not each to there own. hope your bitch do,es not have a large litter , in the ,s i new of a few litters of pure doby,s all had 10plus pups.will be intresting to see/hear how the pup ypu keep deveopes good luck mate Quote Link to post
