hi anyone worked a doberman x lurcher

Recommended Posts

don't know much about lurchers & proper running dogs, but i had a pair of dobes in high school (damn that was a long time ago) that caught me whitetail deer after about 1-4 mile runs. if i knew then what i know now i'd have a good line of dogs.

i say you won't know what you have until you try them.

skelly am no idiot mate as my doberman works well to rabbit, rat hunts up snipe and other game to the gun (i also have two other gundogs esp and esp lab cross)i wanted to cross her not buy a dog for silly money have two people who are deffo taking a pup any left over will be advertised and if not sold will be kept.not selling them for silly money unlike a load of doberman puppies worth £700 each and then letting them go for peanuts because no one wants to buy them.

chirst if a so called name in the lurcher world bred a doberman x and it appeared in a mag people like you who can't think for yourself would proclaim the secound coming and rush out to buy one.

i will look after these pups as well as i can so please do not judge me by your standards...

As a responsible "breeder" I hope that you will be guaranteeing to take back any dogs that you sell then.

Its because i am judging you by my standards that I am asking about the pups and no I wouldn't rush out to buy anything proclaimed in a mag.

As for not being an idiot wouldn't it have made more sense to ask about this cross BEFORE you lined your bitch?

fair play to you mate if your breeding for your own use and not to make money. dobermans are fairly intelligent and alert, they are fairly athletic and have a deep chest and long legs so will be decent runners, you are already working your bitch so thats good. i dont see why your getting so much stick off people, i have seen some stupid crosses for sale with stupid prices like a rotti x saluki, in the ad it said these pups will make exellent workers. how???

im sure alot off us including me have looked at a breed of dog and wonderd what that would be like crossed with a greyhound. in my opinion you could have picked a wores cross.

i hope the pups turn out well and get good homes working or not, they may suit some people they may not, best of luck to you in the future

Sam, Dobes are fairly intelligent? They are VERY intelligent!;)

Good luck with these pups, if I was in the position to take one I certainly would. Anything that they may possibly lack in body suitability they will deffo make up for in brain power. Dobes are very very crafty. Like I've mentioned on here before, I heard of a Doberman/GSD who used to go into a field of cattle and chase hares into the herd to trap them and catch them.

I imagine a doberman would be an excellent dog for bigger game. A big working bloodline one for game like pigs, couldn't go wrong there.

Anyway I hope the pups work out, I'm sure they'll be brill! :)

hello all, this is my first post so please be gentle.

i have a doberman bitch who goes everywhere with me she works rabbits on the lamp(not the quickest but she has had a few) and works the rough stuff for game,i used to run lurchers years ago but my best bitch was killed by the lady next door before she could be bred form so when my doberman came into season and i decided to cross her with a lurcher.so she is due mid feb.

anyone ever seen a doberman lurcher before as i can't find any information about them...

any info kindly recieved.

very few dobermans in the uk have enough drive to be any use for anything other than pets really.if your bitch is drivey and happy to hunt maybe you would be better breeding her to another doby you have a rare dog...if you are going to put a sight hound over her a straight greyhound would be the way forward.the pups would probably be well suited to bigger stuff if it wasnt illegal to run deer or fox in the uk..pics of the bitch and pups would be great...

I have read some balls on this forum lately, but this ranks right up there with the worst. Dobermanns are used in a multitude of arenas, a lot of them due to their high prey drive.

I would agree with you had you stated that the nasty unstable streak has been bred out and they may not resemble the breed from 60 years ago.

I would agree with you if you said, don't try and make a name for yourself by breeding what you hope is the next generation of super lurchers.

I would agree with you if you stated that although dobermanns are an athletic, deceptively fast dog, they do not possess the attributes necessary for fast acceleration. Cross it with a grey and you may get 1 or 2 pups thrown correctly. The rest...........

I have two dobes and I have taken them lamping. Good fun and an exciting change to my whippets. But it was a bit like lamping with highly driven wildebeast. No acceleration, no turn and defo no finess.

Anyone who thinks that a dobe x lurcher or x grey would make a decent altenative to whats already proven and available needs their head examined.

dave the top pharghaph of your made me chuckle all the best with your crazy litter pal

hello all, well she had 8 pups 4 dogs 4 bitches.

answer a few questions now.

not intending to breed a super lurcher as too many out there, any one who buys a pup will get told it will be a what it is and so mr breeder who does sale and return if one of your dogs is trained badly or will not work due to ill treatment you give your money back..mmm

lurcher used was a small whippet cross about 25 in. fast little git and a good heart.my bitch hunts and lamps but it is a bit like watching a slo mo replay but fun.

7 pups are a light sandy brown with black ears and nose, one total black bitch.stud dog black/ black and tan 4 dobie.

asking £220.00 for pups just to pee off people.

never thought to ask if any one knew of a dobiexlurcher before breeding as planning this for 2 yrs.

if the breeding history of the dobie is correct an number of breeds have been included fron german sheepdogs(?)black greyhounds, manchester terrier to name a few all working dogs and dobies have very strong feet well mine has.

why is a bull/greyhound classed by some as so good as bulls are'nt built for speed they are hard dogs who will go thru hell for the fun of it.

so no i do not have the next super lurcher but any dog is what you make of it so once i have started moving a pup on i will keep you all informed how it goes the good and the bad .photos soon once eyes are open.
