BenBhoy 4,706
i'd have thought after all these years of breeding for perfect show looks, the poodle will have lost whatever hunting/chase instinct it might have had. im no saying they are'ne intelligent, and im sure they make ok gundogs when cross with lab as loadsa dogs will retireve, but im no convinced about using them as lurcher to chase prey. just my opinion. Guest fence_hopper
its not the poodle in the dog that catching the rabbits its the grey you can put all kinds of dogs over a grey and the pups would be capable coz of the GREYHOUND BLOOD. Quote Link to post

Helen 2
I think I've said somewhere before, Poodles arn't like Show GSD'S that have had underirable traits bred out of them for the pet market so they have very little work ethic left. Poodles are delightful dogs and more importantly nobody has bothered to breed out the hunting instinct, they didn't need to. Modern Poodles still have all their hunting instincts intact. My standard is as keen as mustard, I actually wanted a labradoodle but couldnt afford one lol I bought my Standard and thank god I did, he has run rings round every Doodle we have come up against. He takes rabbits for me also. Quote Link to post
