andyrose 8
Alright, so the articles in the cmw are not up to the standard that the shooting news used to be. Which lets face it was a cracking read. But whether we like it or not times have changed, and maybe the cmw is like it is through self-preservation. After all it is a magazine thats on sale in newsagents, and anyone can pick up and read. If it had more graffic detail in, how long would it be before your anti posing as concerned joe public complains that its a bloodsports mag, and that their poor jonny picked it up in the newsagents and is now mentally scared. Shit i know, but thats the way the country is know, if they can get hunting with dogs banned, i'm sure they can get a mag banned, or removed from general sale. If it had articles on coursing, foxing, deer hunting etc, it could be seen to promote illegal activities. Which in the eyes of this government and the law would be like having a "burglars weekly" or "joyride news", in fact they way things are they'd consider it worse. And try and get it removed from the shelves. Shit i know but you can hardly blame them for trying to survive a very byes government. I enjoy the cmw, and only because i don't expect earth shattering articles, or to be taught pivotal points that will change the way i hunt forever. I tend to read it from cover to cover, while the misses is watching some crap on the telly. And enjoy reading articles on other country sports, that to be honest i would'nt pick up a book or mag solely dedicated to that sport and read. And lets be honest, a couple of quid for a few hours easy reading is'nt that bad. when alls said and done its the only mag on the shelves that support us and are way of life, it may not be as detailed as edrd, but you can't pick edrd up off the shelves. And it may not be as good as the shooting news used to be, but these are certainly different times to when the shooting news was in print. You can't blame the the cmw for trying to survive in a shitty time. just my views, don't blame them blame the government Quote Link to post
watchman 256
Penny taylors article this week are carbohydrates important to a dog? My god! i would say that there is a lot of input into the cmw that does not relate or even interest me,and i have to admit i dont bye it quite as much now as i used to,i will be the first to admit that iv only been running dogs about 15 years, most of this has been on my own,and learnt from my many mistakes, although been a keen hunter, using many other methods for over thirty years,i do find for example penny taylors write ups quite informative, carbs in a dog,for example,i find that picking up snippets of information over time a good thing imo,we all live and learn and some of us cannot be a complete expert on all matters, even though some of us think we are, just my oppinion thats all Quote Link to post
Endgame 68
nowadays, lol. ......listen ive never had agood honest read from the mag!! its not a terrible read but dont ever put that magazine honest and writers in the same category YES! NOWADAYS! THE OLD SHOOTING NEWS WAS A FAR SUPERIOR READ. "NOWADAYS" THE LURCHER WORLD JUST AINT WHAT IT WAS. CURRENT LEGISLATION IS 1 FACTOR IN THAT,& WHEN I SPEAK 2 MEN THAT HAVE THEIR VEHICLE & DOGS TAKEN,OR GET A 6 MONTH DRIVING BAN I DONT "lol"! 2 BE HONEST HOW MANY WRITERS HAVE NOT HAVE NOT USED BIT OF poetic licence IN THEIR ARTICLES?. IF U DONT LIKE IT? THEN DONT BUY IT. I DONT! Quote Link to post
J Darcy 5,871
With regards hunting articles, you can print anything you want as long as you are not encouraging anyone to break the law and as long as there is a disclaimer in the publication somewhere. The EDRD still has many articles on true working dogs. Quote Link to post

Endgame 68
Notice people knocking poodle x greyhounds dont if you havent seen the dog work,i use a labradoodle for a gun dog he is spot on and also scores well at the scurrys and trials in the summer. He is enormous though built like a tank i also have a golden retriever crossed with a poodle and she is a demon in cover as hard a nails and an excllent water dog she can hunt all day harder than a springer. both dogs were experiments to see if it was a credible working dog x so i have gone out of my way to work them hard. Cant see any reason at all why a poodle x greyhound wouldnt be a superb lurcher in the right hands brains, coat, stamina, good feet.poodles have it all going on LABRAD/OODLES WERE BRED INITIALY BY GUIDE DOGS 4 THE BLIND. LABRADORS R HELLISH 4 CASTING IN THE HOME ENVIROMENT & THAT OBVIOUSLY IS HARD 2 MAINTAIN IF U ARE VISUALLY IMPAIRED. POODLES HOWEVER DONT CAST THEIR COAT, SO THAT WAS WHY THEY WERE CROSSED. DONT KNOW IF THEY CONTINUED WITH THAT BREEDING. HOWEVER IM NOT SURE ABOUT BREEDING LURCHERS FM THEM, BUT SOME OF LITTERS THAT R ADVERTISED THESE DAYS, THEIR BREEDING IS A BIT MENTAL!
