Theres no need to take the batteries out of the original mk3 collars either, just pull the 2 parts slightly apart so the batteries are held in but but not being used. Test with locator so see if you get a signal.

what collars do you have?

the mk3m collars can be switched off, and therefore left in

the mk3 collars cant, therefore you need to take them out

I normally buy half decent batteries, around £15 for 60, and then if ferreting for a weekend, take the batteries out in the evening, until the next morning

if I was leaving it until the following weekend, then Id bin them, and put new ones in on the next outing

its not what everyone will do, but theres already a post in this section on someone loosing a ferret after an hour because the batteries went dead

 

if you want to keep batteries until the last knockings, at least buy one of these so you can check them out, around a £5 from e bay

 

 

After seeing this I just bought one, £2.58 with postage(ebay). For that price its worth having in the bag. Thanks for the advice pal. ATB John

If you have a Grey box or,a Mk11 or MK111 the collars will be transmitting all the time the batteries are in and therefore using power .Take your batteries out of the collar after every use , wipe em over with a soft cloth and they'll last a lot longer .

Even with the MK111M collar which can be switched off it is advisable to take the batteries out if its not going to be used for a while .This also removes any nagging doubts about it being accidently left switched- on. Any condensation ,dirt or moisture can cause these batteries to leak power and even cause corrosion of the terminals .

Providing The on/off switch on the locator box is working properly there is no reason to take the radio battery out all the time unless its been exposed to damp.

I bought my last batch of batteries from the dispensary in my local Doctors surgery -far better than the inter web things I was given .

hi all

i have a mk1 and my locator battery lasts a season and i rearly take it out, i take out the collar batts after use but thats it.

i have never heard of anyone replacing them afer each use unbeliveable! a total waste of money and time.

i carry a small tupaware container which holds my collars and spare batterys so it dosent matter when thre pack up i just replace them...

do you take your batteries out of the locator and collar after use also i heard somone say replace them with a new set after using the locator once how many people do that surely the batteries last longer than one use thanks

 

any batteries that are put in a locator or torch or any item will run down the seconed they are started to be used no mater what it is mate so your better off leaving them in and check them like people on here say
