gonetoearth 5,144
NOT IN THE JOB NO MORE BUT ALWAYS HAND FED, ALWAYS WALKED THE RIDE FROM FEED BIN TO FEED BIN , AND WATCH PHES FEED SEE WHATS ABOUT ALL WAYS HAD STRAW ON THE RIDES TO , TIMES HAVE CHANGED AND LOT OF KEEPERS USE SPINNERS , BIG NUMBERS DICTATE I SUPPOSE, BUT THE ODD DAY HAND FEEDING WOULD GIVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO SEE WHATS ABOUT AND SEE HOW THE BIRDS ARE ETC , Quote Link to post
Jebus 3
We don't hand feed due to having such a wild breed. We have the Blue Back pheasants and they're wild as anything. Quote Link to post

rjimmer 4
The shoots, that I help out on, use plastic whistles. That way, anybody can feed and the tone of the whistle is the same. Some shoots top up their hoppers after dark so that the birds rarely/never see humans except during drives. Quote Link to post

Hunter Campbell 0
I did some work experience not very long ago and the keeper there hand fed his drives the day before the shoot and it showed cus the birds were there. he also made sure the majority of the feed was where he wanted the birds to be i.e flushing points etc. Quote Link to post
rowey 1
Have always hand fed after release then switch to mainly hoppers but still hand feed the woods at night so they have something to come back to and hedges heavily in areas of the drives but there are hoppers all over the place. Always found the poults come running to the sound of the engine on the atv but we rear ours from day olds so they get used to it on the rearing field. Mixture of hand feed and hoppers works great for us. Edited February 13, 2010 by rowey Quote Link to post
