Not sure if there's a appeal system for driving offences,i'd phone the court and ask.If there is you could try appealing but as far as i know more than 6 points in the first 2 years and you have to retake the test anyway. No inssurance is 8 points anyway and there's no ingorance pleading with driving cases mate, sorry.

get a solicitors advice mate. personally i allways turn up to court ,the fines are less and the points less if you do,not turning up is the same as 2 fingers in their eyes!

if you contact the fines office they could if you are polite agree weekly payments.also tell them you have had a change in circumstance and are finding this too much to pay and 9/10 they will return it to court to reduce the fine. i had a £700 reduced to £150 . yer lucky the old bill didnt crush the car though!

yeh no insurance is 6 point...i lost my licence to totting up and no insurance. I would have been better off having been banned for drink driving!!! I was even told that by the insurance company. Thats the punishment for doing them out of money!

Not just punishment for 'doing them out of money' also punishment for chancing that you may smash into me one day and not be able to pay for the damage to my car and my person.

go down to the court ask to see the proscuter tell them that you had moved and you didnt get the letter in time ask them to put you back in court , they should do it ,if not dont pay the fine they will then send you back to court ,then you can tell them about the letter and that you have been back to court to try to put things right , you might get your fine reduced but you will get a min of 6 points

Yeh I'm not defending the stupidity of what I did but to be WORSE than drink driving is bloody daft. I was refused insurance many times and was told a few times buy the insurance companies that if I'd been done for drink driving they could have insured me!

For the record it was 12 years ago and I've had a clean licence ever since touch wood./..also the irony was my wife was going to feed the homeless and I felt sorry for her so gave her a lift in a car I was working on.

The court will tell you that it was in your remit to advise the copper of change of adress, well thats how its done over here, happened me many moons ago, got three year ban, 400 pound fine, I did appeal the ban and got it back, same as you I had moved on and never informed the copper of change, but judge lashed me for wasting court time and because it was first offence he allowed me to drive, think the best thing to do is to lodge an appeal and plea ur case to the judge, good luck.

Out of interest as i dont drive & no nowt about cars & points etc is it the person thats insured or the vehicle

It's both Kay. Some allow you to drive other vehicles as well as yours, some dont. The problem arises when you have a job and you travel with your vehicle to and from and buy the normal social and domestic insurance. (limited types of jobs apply to this)

Never lie about your vehicle i.e yes its garaged when you clearly dont, and yes its alarmed when it clearly isn't. You will be caught out in a matter of time by commiting a minor traffic offence.
