at 35m and above i cant get clear shot on the pigeons head because they keep moving so i go for chest shot which has worked well in the past but its not working any more i need some help finding out why because they drop but dont die at the moment my gun firing at 11.8 ftlb so it not power and its still hitting a 5p at 30m so scope not off i think mabe its the fact im using .177 not .22 but that dose not explane why i used to be able to do it. I would be very thankfull if somone could show me a pic of were i need to hit pigeon in chest to kill it stone dead because i dont like them to flap its not nice to watch. thanks pest hunter 151

hi

why not wait for it to settle, and what happens is! its head sinks to its shoulders. and this is when its at its most relaxed and calm  ,also a more stable target to hit! in the head

i find pigeons more diffucult to shoot then bunny's to be fair!

hope this helps

regards

I shoot pigeons with my .22 in the heart lung area and have no problems, shot thousands literally. But never past 25-30 yards because on the farms I shoot its mostly small sheds and long range shots are not usually necessary. I shoot them in the body because, say you aim for the head but you are an inch out, not a big error could happen to anyone, you could wound it in the beak or neck leaving it to fly away wounded. Whereas if I am an inch out on the body the pigeon is less likely to be able to fly away and is going to die soon from blood loss. Ferals are tough but a body shot will kill cleanly
