There is a difference between mooching about, walking with a pup and it haveing a run or two on a bunny that pops up in front of it to actually taking the said pup out intentionally running it on a rabbit or two. I personally wait till about 12 months old to take it out on the lamp, to late is far better than to early. Casually mooching about with a pup will do it no harm, it's the intentionally running the pup on quarry at a young age that ruins them.

you cant be to late but can be to early

Alot off people on here have good ideas on how till bring up pups but think the best thing is letting the dog work with and older dog have 2 pups 4 months old and when l go for walks l just let them fellow there mother. She learn them about what not 2 chase and what till chase how get through gates and over ditchs. Just started them jumpind and coming on well just play games with them that will benefit them down the line but am hoping my bitch will do most off the work with them.

as any one got proof that taking a pup out from a very young age ruines them

this reply is taking the piss right?? i have no hard evidance like video or pics but yeah i have proof taking them out too early knacks them up, relate your pup to a child ok, would you expect your kiddy to run a marathon at 3yr old?? no?? why not?? cause you know it will f**k them up, its beyond me why so many pillocks out there think like above?? it makes no sense are we just a nation of chavy fuckweasels??

i had discussion with one of the local dickheads today he got himself a lurcher lookes like a collie whippet grey to me he insisted it HAS got a bit of collie and back to a lurcher so i say "so your saying its a collie /greyhound?? nope he replies collie x lurcher, it went on for about 10 mins i was geting more and more annoyed so i turns and says bet you your dog he has greyhound in him!! yeah ok prove it, i say what is my dog?? he says saluki, smart arse i reply the other one! he says whippet saluki greyhound, ok so what was my dog i had pts a while ago, saluki grey, so what kind of dogs make them a lurcher?? erm erm a saluki?? im like daft cnut!! he laughs and says oh yeah its a greyhound innit point proved i ask him for the dog would he hell give me it!!! stupid tosspot!! this people is the way theyouth of today is! i say bring in national service ther'd be no muggings rape or shit like that then!!! atb daks

there are thousands of dogs that dont go out until they are 10 or 12 months old that turn out rubbish what do you blame that on

Bad breeding is one, and next is inexperienced, handling, and 3rd, is they expect the dog to be able to run and pick-up, like an experienced

dog, you could go on and on, and also some young dogs take longer to get balanced out,(( finding there feet, running wide,, and some dogs are a more natural striker, than others, when young, play with a rubber ball the size of a tennis ball, and play it along the ground, good exercise, and they retrieve to hand, (((

START THEM AS SOON AS THEY CAN WALK

Your very early entering to quarry has been talked about by UNFIT in his posts.I had accepted his offer to see these dogs, but he has since disappeared.(Banned maybe?)

I would be very interested to hear your training and entering methods if you care to post them.

I am not taking the piss here-unfit has said that your dogs are a cut above the average- if its true hows it done?

A couple of things bother me about this thread,

The really good Lurchers ive ever seen without exeption have had "drive" a lot of it,they dont get to 18 months and suddenly get it,its there from a young age,you get such a pup and keep it bottled up until its 12 months old and then run it,the drive and determination takes over the pups common sense and lack of experiance with obsticales and it runs into something? more likely with some breeds than others granted, give them all the obediance/schooling you like but when they see a rabbit at 12 months for the first time ever a dog with real drive wont care much about that imo.

the other thing is it seems to be turning into a "who leaves it the longest" competition, personally i dont know anyone who wouldnt run an odd rabbit until a dog was 18 months old, what about reading the individual pup and just using common sense?

I take things steady myself but some people on this thread are taking the piss imo.
