Paul in North Lincs 15
Had a freak accident in the kennel, which nearly cost a dog its life! Perhaps this could serve as fair warning to others. A couple of days ago I put the dog in kennel whilst we went out for an hour or two visiting family. Gave him fresh water and food and said cherrio. Came back a couple of hours later, approached kennel with dog bounding about keen to see me. With that, the water bowl went over with a clatter, followed by a yelp, and a crimson tidal wave! In those 2 hours the water had frozen to about 5 mil, and cut my dogs back leg like a scaple casing a massive cut on the back leg, and a severed main artery. I immediatly wipped off a sock and tied around the gaping would in an attempt to stem the blood flow. Then raced to the vets............ got the 20 minutes later with the cream interior of the rover 75 looking like a scene out of freddy cruger film...... He was sedated immedatly and the artery clamped and 8 staples to close the wound. Vet reconned he was about 15 minutes away the big dog kennel in the sky!!!!..two nights in the vet, and a hefty bill...........for something so easily overlooked. Needless to say, there is no water bowl in the kennel now. Lukily there was no tendon damage, and he should make a full recovery, avoiding infection of course....but we're out of action for a good few weeks..... be aware! Quote Link to post

louis123 12
i use a bucket, and put it right at the back of the run so when they jump up the gate theyre well away from it. and its too high for them to casually put there foot in Quote Link to post
