blackfox 9
As the title says - Are foxes canibalistic? Im saying this cause i shot a fox about 3 weeks or so ago and chucked it in the hedge... took the dog out for a walk today and saw that the remains had been pulled out of the hedge about 20 ft into the field and was stripped bare no skin left only the tail had hair on Maybe the snow is getting too much or is this normal? Cheers Quote Link to post

Deker 3,478
In my experience when food is plentiful they will tend to leave their own, but when needs must they have no problem! Quote Link to post
RicW 67
Define cannibalism. Foxes are very unlikely to kill other foxes but if they come across a stiffie - it's breakfast. Quote Link to post
watchman 256
im sure badgers would eat their fill from a carcass as well Quote Link to post

dicehorn 38
Couple of years ago in late spring, as I came along the road at night, I could not help but run over a fox cub - there were 2 others in the road at the time. As I continued I suddenly thought although I felt the bumps of driving over one, that I should turn around and go back to make sure I had not damaged another cub. When I go there the two other cubs were tucking into their very dead mate. Picked up the dead cub and chucked it well onto the grass verge before the next car came along and claimed the other two. stubby 175
thats weird, as shot urban foxes that have been bagged awaiting me to take to the works incinarator are never clawed open by other urban foxes on other rubbish sacks, Quote Link to post
RicW 67
I read a few days ago that polar bears are becoming fully cannibalistic, with males killing and eating cubs - even their own. This is due the shrinkage of the ice-cap reducing the numbers of seals, the bears' normal prey. Obviously not a viable long-term policy. Quote Link to post
