Pure bull...

i had 1 about a year ago. i was told somthing about its lines cant remember much somthing along the lines of iceman the dog was a absalute nutter only small it was. it didnt even last a week, it went straight back to the gypos, i couldnt even take it for a walk anything rubber it would just lock on to, including tyres on cars or vans, whellie bin wheels and it took half an hour to get it off. not the kind of dog for me ive got a picture somwere all try and rake it out. what is iceman is it a kind of breed or somthing.

just feel that most people that keep dogs like that do it to make them look tough and a cant see much of a place for them as workers.

well your wrong. they are TERRIERS at the end of the day. they work cover, hunt up well, good marking earths, love chasing stuff infact the only thing they cant do that a patterdale can is get to ground cause of there size. bull terriers have as much place in the field than any other dog why do you think there are so many crossed with greyhounds,whippets and other terriers??

a good bull terrier would be a liability out in the field,a fired up bull would result in maimed lurchers and terriers,dont think bushing is whats called work for a bull terrier mate,now a bull lurcher can do anything a bull can,catch draw etc,and a ten lb fox isnt realy a match for a game bred dog,for one they fight with quarry rather than try to kill it,and get more bitten than a lurcher or terrier would do,and thats from years of experience with bulls which yours are not by the look of them!!now put your cap on and go and sell some crack

 

 

now i am a big fan of the bulls but dont own a full one....funny you should say that about them fighting with their quarry instead of killing it because i was chatting to some digging lads the other week and they were saying that years back they went out with some lads that used a pure pit for drawing but they said it didnt finish it and wanted to fight it and just lock on rather then get a throat hold and end it.i dont for one min think this applies to all pure bullss but this is what they said but im sure that the lads that own and work these dogs find them useful,if they didnt then they wouldnt own them.atvb

my family had the stafford stuff years ago and to what we thought was extrememly good at what they done and how they performed.. but when they first introduced the pitbull and saw them do what they do best that was when my uncle n dad stopped usuing the staffs.. i got nothing against them i think they are fantastic dogs ... but imo it was pitbull all the way for me thats what i have been bought up with fantastic dogs couldnt ask for a more loyal dog

How long ago we talking about this iceman dog bud.. my friend had a dog called ice man he was a white red pied dog goin back 5 or 6 years back .. double bred off a dog called kaiser wich ones dwn from a dog called lee ... patick lined stuff .. dunno if its the same bud but thats the iceman i no of .. regards

well we all have our opinions and what we like we stick to .. but a lot of the proper well bred pit stuff in my eyes couldnt be beat .. but i also rate the staffords very highly working ones anywayz

the dog i'm thinking of was the sire to crunch, he was by garrets floyd out to one of his daughters. floyd being sired by jeep...

you boys get to heated about what is best at everything,dogs are best at what there bred for,simple as.......pits for the pit,terriers at underground,staffs for drawing or barrel work,long dogs for running and bringing down fast game,obviously there are exceptions to the rule but anyone slagging a whole breed just to 'big up' their own is dillusional imo.

i heard this thing time and time again seems a lot of kennels followed this fashion and imo did a lot of harm to the breed by giving up on them.pitts are good dogs but SBT for me always has been and always will be

 

So did i and none of it was true.I always considered a WELL bred staff a more game dog for all jobs.

 

a good dog is a good dog no matter whats behind it, what lines, dogs do you consider are the best ones?or produce the best well bred ones?

I always worked and bred cuilleog and C F dogs and found them game to a fault at everything.

I don't know about this liability business. I always found them very well mannered around other dogs and I ran mine in a small pack. I've hunted them in all sorts of company when ratting, from digging dogs, to bull crosses, to bushing terriers and gun dogs and they were spot on, even when other dogs were kicking off. They served me well over the years and it's nice to see some lads still using them out and about. If you give them a go, there's more to them than a block end dog.

In my opinion theres nothing above ground that a terrier can do that a Bull/Staff cant...I never set out to hunt with my Staff's but due to the location i live the dogs are run out over farmland 7 nights a week sometimes making several trips out a night with differnt dogs...and they catch stuff on a regular basis...not saying they are the best at the job...but they do a job...over the years i have met other lads that do the same...would not belive some of the quarrie these dogs can work to (given the chance) unless i had seen it myself...not real work for a Bull i know (recreation really)...but hunting all the same.
