brock26 6
hi all happy new year just a quick question to all the experts out there. why do some people prefer 7ft 8ft 10 ft digs to dogs when the outcome is the same if it is 0.4. dont get me wrong ive been hunting a long time and in my younger days would put a dog in anywhere but now id take 2fters all day long Quote Link to post
higgins 75
since the ban, most people with terriers are hunting illegally,i think shallow digs will be prefered if you don't have permission or you hunt alone, Higgins Edited January 10, 2010 by higgins Quote Link to post
genuine 81
I go wherever me fox goes if he got 1ft i do he goes 30ft i follow,i woulnt want a terrier that came off at 30ft i put the dog there its doing his job i gota do mine part of it and dig to him! How deep is not an issue with me its weather dog and handler bond and work together because if they dont you never get results, get dogs cocking etc always dig no matter how deep long it takes! Also good topic! Quote Link to post

Also good topic! doesn't bother me if a dig is deep, just saying you need to be on permission for deep digs and as the ban dictates the circumstances, most terrier lads may not have permission so wherever they put a terrier it's preferred to be shallow so as to get away quicker, Higgins Quote Link to post
Attack Fell Terrier 864
since the ban, most people with terriers are hunting illegally,i think shallow digs will be prefered if you don't have permission or you hunt alone, Higgins I don't agree, it's ridiculous to discredit and demonize "most people with terriers" since the ban like you have here on a forum that's being viewed by thousands of people. I'd say the vast majority of terrier men are decent hard working people that enjoy their sport and offer a service to land owners who have a pest problem. If we've got our own people condemning the most of us as criminals on a hunch, then what chance have we got at changing the public's opinion and having these ridiculous laws changed over here? Come on pal, sort it out! Quote Link to post
Rugersrob 38
its more to do with the terrier, if you dig 8ft and your mutts still there full points but if its 0.4 and you get there your dog is most prob goin to be there no matter what its just a test of dog really.. Quote Link to post

Johnny85 50
I love shallow digs, but I am afraid unless you have stopped the big places you know you dont have a choice. if you are digging for a pack, The fox decides how deep he goes and the huntsman decides to dig it or not Quote Link to post
Hunter 20Ten 0
most times it depends on the dog! if u have a hard dog sallow digs are normally prefered as you can get in2 the dog quickly and in turn gt as much hunting out of him threw the season as possible....dnt want him lying up for weeks at a time! if u have a mixer u can go for the deeper digs + if u have a strong enof dog u will have faith in the dogs ability to hold the fox...der is nothing worse than diging down maybe 5 r 6ft and the fox getting by the dog and having 2 dig al over again! bt at the enda the day if u want to test ur dog a deeper dig wud be the way 2 do it! also deepends on how many pplz ur hunting with when deciding wat depth of holes to try! this is jst my opinion at the enda da day! jack crowley 5
you dont need a deep dig to test a dog you could put the dog in a big rangey burrow and leave him there for as long as you want and still have tested him to your likeing Quote Link to post
