Mr Jones 4
Hi, I am going to buy a new air rifle. Had an HW77 for years and thought it was a great gun. Been out the game for a few years now and wanted to check opinions on here before purchasing anything. 1. What's the best spring Air Rifle on the market between £300-£400? (I'm thinking the Weihrauch HW97K Mk II?) 2. What do folks prefer .22 or .177? What's the advantages and disadvantages? I felt .177 better at distance and better penetration but sometimes pack less of a punch at close range. 3. Any preference for a decent scope (hunting only), had Tasco Golden Antler 4x40's and liked them before? Do you like adjustable scopes 3-9x40's etc or are there advantages to just having fixed? Thanks Atb Mr Jones Quote Link to post

andyz 30
My first gun was the HW77K, now I can only pass on what I hav been told about it..... ....it's a sprnger for life!!! I personally have got on very well with it and although it is slightly on the heavy side I've never found it to be a problem! Andy Quote Link to post

zini 1,939
Hello Mr Jones pal, I’ve owned a lot of spring rifles in my life and shot even more of them and from my experience I’d say that the top 5 are in this order: 1. Air Arms Pro Sport 2. Weihrauch HW 97K. The new thumbhole stock HW97K rifle is a wonderful piece of kit. I saw one at the Grantham Game Fair last year. I would even go as far to say, that if it was tuned it would be a better rifle than the Pro Sport. 3. Theoben evolution 4. Air Arms TX200 mark 3 5. Weihrauch HW95K with Weihrauch silencer. I used to own a new model and regularly took 45 metre head shots at pigeons killing them straight away. I only sold it in April last year. Wished i never did now Scope wise, a good cheap but effective scope is a Tasco 6-24x50 AO, Illume, Mil dot from EBay. I have shot a few head of vermin with mine ok. Calibre wise, it doesn’t matter as Davy says its up to shot placement buddy. A .177 or .22 calibre rifle will kill any legal airgun quarry out to 55 metres if the shot is perfect. I’ve seen it done plenty of times. Zini Edited January 10, 2010 by zini Quote Link to post
