what a lovely start to the new year ,bought a saluki x ghound pup 13 months ago done all the usuall training,jumping ,retreving,recall,livestock and so on had her on the lamp a few times and gave her a slip or two on long ears and was really happy with her and myself for bringing her to this stage of her hunting career,so over the christmas holliday had her out a lot and she got one electric shock one day and another one two days later ,i cant believe how nervous she has got in the field ,and am thinking is her career over before its really begun cause before this happened she was game as the come , any one any ideas thanks .

no she just needs alot of tlc so spend lots of time with her get her trust and sh ell be fine just give the dog time

And avoid any electric fences! She'll get over it, lots of positive experiences in the field, easy catches, confidence building, lots of praise, games and fun and as i've said stick well clear of electric fences.

I wouldn't call her career over, don't give up like that.

As Topper says, take your time, don't put any pressure on and she will gain her confidence back. Try to work away from any electric fences, you know what a belt they can give. I would imagine it would be worse for a lightly built dog. I hate the things, (electric fences, not dogs)they are all round my permission, I once got such a shock when my gun barrel touched one, that I involuntarily threw the gun about 10 feet and scrapped the scope.

the reason for thinkin like that is my cousin had dearhoundxghound bitch that was very good on long ears two years ago ,the bitch again like my bitch got a few bangs from wire and would not even run after a long ear or anything else for that matter she would be grand walkin the road on a lead but when she went into a field it was a shame what the wire did to her ,thanks

dont worry about the wire kid the only reason it wrecked lloyds bitch is that he dont have a clue

take it handy with her and try not get her anymore slaps of wire and her confidence should return.
