samearl14 11
Was reading a thread in the running dog section about using pure collies for bushing and lamping. Any one used/use one as a gun dog? I've never owned a collie myself, just wondered what they'd be like. ATB Sam Quote Link to post
shotgunandy 2
i got laughed at when i bought my collie mate but he has been the best dog i have owned so far. so quick to learn and will do anything i ask of him from marking rabbit holes and chasing down the odd bunny that slips the net, lamping rabbits at night and he also flushes and retrieves to the gun. he is not perhaps as good at each job as a breed meant for the job would be (ie a terrier, lurcher or recognised gundog) but he is more than good enough. i have been surprised by him so many times over the last 5 years as have the people i hunt with. like i say, not perfect but a very good dog. however if you just want a dog specifically for shooting there are better breeds out there Quote Link to post
samearl14 11
thanks for the reply. I like seeing a different type of dog in the field which is why i wondered about collies. SAm Quote Link to post
