whippeter69 88
Just curious for future reasons, but that caliber do you prefer for foxing? I do like the 22-250 but would like others experiences with the other calibers. So what caliber would you recommend for foxing? Quote Link to post
FOXHUNTER 5,021
This topic has been discussed to death but a 22.250 is a great choice . Im sure other will suggest .222 .223 .204 .243 they all do the job. Quote Link to post

Not necessarily true, it depends on the firearms dept that he deals with. Some will pass .17HMR for fox outright, some for "opportunistic fox" only, some consider it included when specifying "Vermin" on the FAC (in which case it could be an implicit approval for .22LR), others will treat it separately and put "Fox AND Vermin" If you're considering HMR for fox, I'd speak to your FEO first and get his thoughts (as they do vary from area to area). I think most people on here however would suggest a small centrefire for a dedicated foxing rifle, regardless of what your own FEO might allow. Quote Link to post

masmiffy 82
My mate has used nearly all calibres for fox. He now only uses 22-250 and 22-4000. Both his own custom built varmint rifles. He was probably 'responsible' for the introduction of the 22-250 as a fox varmint calibre to the UK! His last custom build was a .20 calibre wildcat varmint rifle, custom stocked with a 'floating' heavy barrel. It looked the dogs gonads and was one holing at 150yd after he finished 'tuning' it! danw 1,748
My old head keeper used to reckon the best gun for fox was the one you where holding when you saw it, IT don't matter so long as it pokes a hole through it. Quote Link to post
JohnGalway 1,043
I'd like to have a 6mmbr ideally, but I've had two.223's now and they put foxes down well enough for my needs Quote Link to post
sounder 9
.243 for me or .22 hornet atb sounder Quote Link to post

Deker 3,478
It's already been said, this has been discussed at length and ended up Pinned. I seem to recall the poll ended up almost a dead heat between, 223, 22-250 and 243! I have shot fox with many other calibres and shotgun, and I'm not at all convinced there is an answer! Each and every situation is different, and requires the appropriate tool! Quote Link to post
whippeter69 88
Cheers for the replies guys. I am getting into fox shooting now and when it comes to apply for my FAC I need to decided what fox caliber I will put down. Still plenty of time left to think about it thought haha Quote Link to post
