Nik_B 3,790
After joining BASC I applied to join a shooting syndicate. They have shooting in Wales, which comprises 'a bit of everything' game, duck and vermin shooting during the week. Organised maintenance and feeding etc plus beating as well. It was exactly what I want out of rough shooting, a group of people to learn from and alot of variety but not necessarily massive bags to take home. If you read my other posts you'll see that I can have a huge amount of time on my hands when I am home from work and am constantly driven crazy by my family, so I am after something that I can get my teeth stuck into. I was pleased to open my email today and find that I'd been contacted by the organiser after I'd almost given up. My original email was totally honest and I admit to being a novice and not even have SGC or FAC yet, though I shoot at a club. I am happy to get involved, beat and shoot with air rifles till my certs come through. So to avoid sounding even more of a twit I wanted to ask a few questions...they posted a fee which sounds quite cheap to me. Should I expect some hidden costs other than the few hundred quid they state? or is say 250-350 the going rate for a years rough shooting? Probably by my daft questions you can see why I am having to ask I'll be ringing him up soon enough but if anyone can advice me of what to check, or ask about I would be most appreciative. hily 380
Nic on the face of it sounds good but you'v got to ask a few more questions of the syndicate is it only through the week how many in syndicate how many beating days are you expected to do. How many work days expected .THIS ALL ADDS TO THE VALUE OF YOUR CONTRIBUTION TO THE SHOOT FOR EXAMPLE THE SHOOT WOULD EXPECT NORMALY TO PAY ABOUT £25 PER DAY FOR A BEATER .Is their enough ground to shoot over if they have let days aswell as the syndicate .Nic i am not trying to put a damper on your enthusiasm but do look into it as some shoots can take the pee out of keen lads.If you can talk to someone who is in the syndicate to get an overview of the shoot it may help you to make your decision atb

Nik_B 3,790
300 acres of land, woodland, hedges, and crops in season and ponds for the ducks, also rear some small number of phesant. This all sounds like a group of enthusiasts to me. Work days are optional but sound fun to me as I'll learn alot. They shoot on SOME 'set' days during the game season and alternate beating and shooting. Recon you might be right, maybe got some let days in the season, but they did say they only rear and release a small number of birds. All year round shooting and wildfowl +game when in season. Was advertised as rough shooting.
