THE DEMON 93
i like my dog stay with the hare for a bit to watch the chase then take a strike but hes had them straight away then others but every hare is differant and when out lamping the dog goes right in to the hedge after rabbits and he does get injured the odd time but cant stop him he would run through a brick wall for me atb Quote Link to post
watchman 256
when lamping i like my dogs to follow a rabbit in,over the course of a season you will get a good increase on catch rate and iv never had a dog injured when doing this, not to say it doesnt happen, although a lot of dogs are not hedge splitters but some can readily start as they get older and are right up on their quarry, dont forget, only my opinion Quote Link to post
iceman001979 1,316
My bitch goes in be she stop and listen 1st till see where the rabbit is 1st but this really her 1st year on the lamp and has started taking over the rabbits and jocking up and down the fence its great till watch as she does not have run that fast because she knows where the rabbit is heading but on a hare its just drive drive drive good till watch and the fields we hunt are not that big for hares so need a dog thats has a good drive and balls hitting ditchs amd over fences. boyo 1,398
i like mine to be striking all the time and crashing the hedge i know the top hare dogs sit in behind and judge their strike but half the time their out of sight when they do strike/ mate of mine got a very good bitch caught 2 and we think 3 out of 3 about a fortnight ago just before the snow but we didnt see any of the pickups and he had to run to find the dog and longears couldnt find the third because she was on the way back to him. doesnt worry him or lots of others but myself i like to see the action in front of me.
