mattyg 1,862
so....what sort of lines/strains should i be looking into to achieve a dog of this size? im in no hurry at all but any other views and info would be great, as with all dog breeding there will always be a small element of guess work as regards to exact sizes but thats where all your lads experiencs will help me. cheers, matt Quote Link to post
mally 832
big whiipets all the way 21 bitch 22-23 dog perfect Yes but are they really whippets? or has other blood been added along the way???. The large whippets don't have the topline a whippet should have.. I prefer a whippet that actually looks like a whippet not a grew, the one i'm running at the minute is 20" and 30lb she does all i ask of her and more.. AS for KREET wasn't he the bloke who was getting dogs from the dog pound and selling them on here? Quote Link to post
fresh earth 47
I know enough at the end of the day it aint rocket science as for 22-23" greyhounds it is a known fact some lines have had more than whippet added end of story . Kreet sold a few dogs on here like any other person if you buy a dog and it is not what you are looking for you will sell it again not hold onto it for the sake of it as for getting dogs from the pound i would not know but as far as i am aware if you get a dog from the pound it is speyed neutered none of the dogs he sold were and you would be vetted by the dog homes so they would hardly let a dog go to a kennel when they expect a house for them. I am 22 not 14 this is my brothers address on here i didnt bother making one as we share a computer i have enough experience in the breed kreet has never denied selling quite alot of dogs at one point but he was looking for what he wanted and realised buying grown dogs was not the way forward he has brought all the dogs he now has on from pups and are all first class whippets he would not keep anything else now and to be fair if you can find a fault with any of his dogs i would drink my own piss i have the black and white pied bitch pictured she was fighting in kris's kennel so he gave her to me as i only had a terrier he has now given my brother the blue pup for nothing in return he would rather see how his pups are coming on than sell to randoms for more money and not know who the hang has them this is not an arguement about kris so please get back on the subject everyone makes mistakes while they are younger i bet you have all made yours as for gone poaching as i already said how the hell can you accuse anyone of anything when you are doing the exact same thing. As i already said i would not touch any of these 23" "WHIPPET" with a 20foot barge pole they are grews and anyone with any knowledge of the breed will know this and know this. Quote Link to post
Chickens4ever05 22
its funny to see how people wnat the big whippets as they think they are more capable, and Iv seen som really fiesty big harted dogs that will take and have ago on anything. Tom Quote Link to post

From the photo's i've seen of Kreets whippets mate, they look a nice type and in good condition, and from what you say he's been more than fair with you and your brother. Hats off to him for doing that and for breeding his whippets to the standard. Quote Link to post
fresh earth 47
As i say i cannot fault eather of the whippets he has given us or they way he looks after his dogs. Always said i liked your vixen and you take a hell of a photo mally the bitch is always in good nick and is exactly how a whippet should look in size and conformation. ar Quote Link to post

Tom I totally agree Thomas, bigger doesn't always mean better. As you know i prefer a whippet with good bone, one that can take a knock or two in the field and just shake it off. I wouldn't want a whippet at 22-23" though as i believe you lose the early pace, just what whippets are known for.. It's a real shame that some folk seem to be favouring and breeding 22"+ whippets, some of which don't actually look like whippets. Some have apple heads and usually strong heads. There are a few of us that do try and breed to the standard, Elgadane, pennymeadow, and highisland to name a few. I was at the uk working whippet club lurecoursing and show at Malton last April, there were some excellent whippets there from the above breeding 90% of which were of the correct size. Jess the first whippet bitch i owned was 21" and 35lb, i used her for lamping, ferreting and coursing(before the ban) although she was a good worker, Vixen her daughter is a much better catch dog as she has far more early pace as she is smaller (20" and 30lb), she gets back on the rabbits much quicker after a turn than jess did on the lamp. Vixen is more nimble too, being able turn on a sixpence. Quote Link to post
Guest fence_hopper
my bitch is 21 and a demon on the lamp wouldnt change anything about her, she's excactly what i wanted and lucky to of got. her sire was 23 tts shoulder son of glen, and what a dog he was,he reguarly took massive bags of bunnys each night with enough pace speed power to take charlie the same night, he's got a good name down here but unfortently got hit buy a car before christmas but never mind he's got a son thats going to be the same stamp long live the big whippets Edited January 13, 2010 by fence_hopper Quote Link to post
