harrycatcat 31
Question is...are the 2000 range rovers any good? Anyone else got any opinions? imo id avoid a range rover they are for stuck up pompus tit headed arseholes those that think they are sssooo much better than everyone else we get them up here amongst the shooting parties and what a bunch of arrogant fuckwits they are, i wouldnt care but they drive shite and are shit off road id rather buy an old panda 4x4 and drive that than one of these!!! i also think that the reason for the defender not changing much is because it works the age old saying if its not broke dont fix it springs to mind just my opinion though lol atvb..daks I would like to take issue with you there I have a 1985 V8 Range Rover and I do not consider my description fits the one you describe (others may agree with you though) but my rangie is very comfy and is like a reindeer in the snow and gets me anywhere. Previously I had a 90 and it used to leak rain in everywhere I used to be wetter when I got out than when I got in it.

jedandlevo 8
in my opinoun i think u would be more suited to a discovery as u seem to want a range rover crossed with the off road capabilitys of a defender and you could get a 1 about 03/04 for that money

Your comments please disco, td5, with a set of all terrain tires, , will suit you, ive grown up with land rovers all my life, 19 years , and i personally love them all for different things, but it seems a disco td5 will suit you, , you say going down dirt tracks, ? is it that serious off road ? would a subaru legacy estate ( 4x4 ) not suit you ? ? atb in your mission, Hey fella Firstly no not serious off road. I need something I can stick the dog in the back of, lots of space would be nice, shooting car, fishing car, taking family or dog for walks, stick the bikes in the back or on the back of it when needed, camping possibly. So I did think of an estate but I took my missus to have a look round the clay shooting ground and my poor A3 took a hammering, so a 4x4 would be better suited but NOT required...but then who knows? Secondly extend me budget to 7-8 grand so can get a fairly decent disco...the range idea is pretty much shelved.. I am looking for a ES model with the fancy seats coz I do like a nice bit of comform as I get older Now...on to the non-vitals... I do fancy getting a V8. They're faster and I've never had one. Zero difference in the insurance and I only do say 4000 miles per year so the increase in petrol wont really hurt me as the V8s tend to be 1000-2000 cheaper. My only concern is with all the horror stories I keep hearing about dropped liners, head gaskets problems etc.... I have heard the 2002 on has a cosworth block and is stronger but not 100% sure. So...Sure a diesel is cheaper and more practical, but unless people are seriously warning me off the V8 I might give it a shot. Dont forget I'm looking for 2002 year with say -100k on it. black-spring 18
As has been said above the range rover will be a P38,,, which has the BMW 2.5 engine,, they are ok, but just about every thing will go wrong, air suspension compressor, air springs all round, caliper stick, front hub bearings, then you get into the electronics. I am lucky to be very good friends with the owner of a land rover breakers, he buys in P38's for anything from £200 and due to the amount of sick P38 about they are striped in weeks,,, that said the 4.6 V8 sounds the nuts,, and the special edition vogue its one hell of a car! personally i would go for the TD5 disco, there are loads about, go for the face lift one with the updated head lights, as they will keep there money better. just check if it has had any over heating issues and if so has the head gasket been done, also the air spring at the rear, have they been replaced? as at that age they will start to go, the manual TD5 should cost less and will do on average around 5 mpg better than the auto, it will also be quicker BUT its a big beast so the auto makes life easier, i have a friend who is selling a late 52 plate in grey with the leather interior 110k for 6k, nice car, have you tried the actions? you can get some good buys? feck the defender, they are the beast looking and can really smash off road but on road and for driving about they are crap against a disco, all the best rob,,
black-spring 18
for ref a TD5 tuned by TD alive or twisted developments wil be close on as fast as the V8 and give a lot of smiles! you can get 200BHP +
Nik_B 3,790
I'm definately NOT getting a Rangie now that is for sure. Looking for a Disco ES but I do fancy the V8. Can find one for miles around where I live, wondering if it is a sign from god and I should just get the diesel I've never had a V8 and I wouldn't mind one if just for the sound it makes. yoggerman 5
in my opinion both the later td5 disco and the p38 are crap.... ive had a few of both, and all were breaking down left right and centre... the p38's ive had have all been 4.6 models.... all of these modern landy products have to many issues with them.. the only real range-rover is a classic and the best landy engines of all time are 200 and 300 tdi's youd be better off buying a 300 tdi or a fourtrak or similar just for your off-roading p.s hjeres my old vogue best its got a 5 inch lift and a humvee 6.2 v8 disel........... now this is a BEAST Edited January 13, 2010 by yoggerman
Guest ROUGH COATED
I had a 300 tdi 90 and it was flat out from day one, could leave it standing for 6 month's and it would still start 1st time, you would get a nice DEFFENDER for that price with LEATHER SEAT LOL and would take you any where, forget the V8's 300 TDI is the way forward
gsi2000stokie 5
a 110 would be better for the dogs as theres the extra boot space, disco's and rangie's are near enought the same car as the chassis's are the same anyway its only the body thats different, a 90 is amazing offroad but not a lot of space, even if ye get a 110 or 90 the comfort side of things are easily enough sorted with a change of seats ect, @ the end of the day all of them are the same engines so all near enough bomb proof, but they all rot like compost so any with suit ye needs really,
Luke5280 0
If it were me I'd be looking at a 200/300tdi defender! V8's never run right and disco's rot like hell!
Nik_B 3,790
OK well I went against all sensible advice and have bought a 2001 Range Rover. I suppose I'll have to drop the Stockport accent and start pretending to be posh. I was sent on a discovery but the minute I sat inside the Rangie the interior was just awsome. It does nearly everything probably would wipe your bum after a poo. Hope I got a good one, its only got 57k on the clock and looks like a very honest motor. Hope that isnt famous last works.
