KIPO 2
New years day been out hunting on way home and no other cars involved just slide into gate post and took bumper of . lights on nears side ,also wing , I payed £500 for van spent on 14th december just over £200 getting it through MOT welding and service, so I have first £100 to pay on claim . Phoned insurances I am fully comp and they asked me a lot questions then said they woul send a slavage firm to collect and they phoned today and said that they where coming tomorrow from north wales and I put them of with weather where I live is not possibly to get here. Anyway spoke to our local gamekeeper as he had a crash and as I have never claimed before he said to me what was the van worth I payed £500 from a mate been well looked after and always well serviced as was a business van .I have just got of phone from the insurance company and they tell me they cannot make me a offer yet till they see the van but would not send an one because of the age of the van so it will be scrapped and is it right that if they offer me say £400 they take £100 of me and I get £300 as I just cannot buy another van with them scrapping it at that price . If any lads can give me any advice before they take the van . Can I buy my van back and repair it myself .

Hi Kipo, how are you pal?First thing is if no other vehicle was involved i would NEVER claim from the insurance,i would just find the cheapest repair firm to get it fixed,by claiming, your insurance will go up next time.Is it woth claiming and bumping up the price of your insurance? How old was the van and in what condition? You have to look at the value of the vehicle to see if it's worth claiming for, also i only pay insurance for the reason of being legal on the road i have no intention of claiming as long as the value of my motor doesn't exceed the price of insurance,a claim will only be made if it involves third party damages, hope this helps, Higgins

higgins 75
At the end of the day it's all about the cheapest way to stay legal on the road and save money paying for insurance, just get the cheapest most reliable runners and your quids in,what you really want is third party cover as much as possible in the case of a claim,a motor is replaceable, repairs and claims are not, Higgins

higgins 75
Not sure about this but maybe you could let them know you don't want to claim, then get it repaired as cheaply as possible yourself, the only thing i'm not sure about is having once claimed will they let it go and also do they keep it on record and still bump the insurance up next time even though you cancelled the claim? stubby 175
you can cancel a claim at any time before getting the money and it wont push up next insurance, I once had a motor nicked, but worked out by claiming, it would bump up to more than the motor cost me....
