Irish Lurcher 1,013
Just got a call from a fellow shooter who has just heard on the news that the above birds are protected for the rest of the season, can anyone shed a light on this??????? Quote Link to post
Colster 1
Yep, hasn't affected mainland UK yet but NI and Scotland have it http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/northern_ireland/8440441.stm They don't usually state a date when the ban ends, it usuallys gets re-appraised every 7 days I think. Irish Lurcher 1,013
HARD WEATHER - SHOOTING BAN Following discussion with the NARGC and Birdwatch Ireland, it is understood that the Minister for the Environment, Mr John Gormley, T.D., will today (Wed. Jan 6th) issue an Order banning the shooting of certain species for a period of ten days, effective from Thursday, January 7th 2010. We understand that the Order will prohibit the shooting of Waders and specifically mentioned in the Order will be Woodcock, Snipe and all duck and goose species. The ban will not apply to Pheasant, Red-Legged Partridge, Woodpigeon or any mammal species. Great Quote Link to post

waidmann 105
on our shoot we have not been shooting duck and geese for around 2 1/2 weeks. they have it hard enough at the moment. the only water open is the canal and a couple of streams. i have quite a few woodcock and nipe on my permission but have left them alone too. they seem to be congregating on areas they can still get into the ground( flowing ditches/streams) and i wouldn't want to deter them from these areas. i shall be concentrating more on charlie( i see him more often above ground at the moment). we are out with the terriers in the morning( protection of gamebirds who also don't need any pressure from predators either ) i hope everyone has as much sport as possible in this weather( and plenty of whisky after, medicinal purposes of course ) atb Quote Link to post
The Seeker 3,048
Yep my mates and i have had to cancell our wildfowling trip to Scotland due to the ban, although they say it is going to be reviewed on the 12th I cant see it being lifted this season. And to be honest if the ducks and geese have had it that bad I wouldnt want to be shooting thin birds that have been struggling to survive this later side of winter. It will be interesting to see if England and Wales also introduce a ban although not heard anything as yet. ATB Seeker Quote Link to post
