Bradford Lad 74
Hi everyone, as some will know i recently become a proud dad to my two beautiful daughters, now that they are home i'm wanting to introduce my Patty to them. He is great around toddlers/kids but he's never been near a baby. I let him into the same room as the babies the other day and as soon as one made a sound he adopted the same "sparked up" stance he does when he sees quarry, he didnt growl, he never does. My wife is devastated, her and the dog have a real bond but she's really worried about letting him near them again. Our other dog a beddy/whippet wasnt even interested in them, he walked had a look and went to his bed as usual without a second glance. has anyone ever experienced the same problem and if so how did you resolve it? Cheers Ian Quote Link to post
waidmann 105
i would be more worried about the dog ignoring the baby mate. get a blanket which the baby has had and let him sniff etc let him see you with the baby and come to you( if worried then let the mrs hold the baby and you the dog). babies smell funny, sound funny and are wierd( from a dogs point of view). whatever you do try to get them together as soon as you can and it will soon be forgotten. no need to tell you if in doubt play it safe. atb Quote Link to post
Bradford Lad 74
Not too concerned about the other dog not showing much interest, he came from a home who had a baby and appears to be unfazed by them. Have put the one of their baby growers in with him tonight to let him get used to the scent, like i said he's great with kids and will play for hours wth my brothers 5yr old, it's just the stance he adopts and the way he looks at them thats got me a tad worried. Like you say though i will play it safe. Quote Link to post
rob.i 26
Congratulations to You and your Mrs obviously youre a bit worried .Just make sure the dogs cannot get near the young ones it only takes one mistake and it can end in disaster as often seen in the press .I can speak from experience one of my terriers who had been brought up with kids bit my daughters friend on the mouth he had never shown aggression in the home before. Needless to say he didnt show any ever again the thought of that day reminds me to never let my dogs be on their own with kids Quote Link to post

william slater mcgregor 2
often the problem lies with terriers being petted to much ,along comes a baby or in your case two getting all the attention that the terriers were getting and hey presto in comes jelousy, keep them away from the bairns ,i personally dont trust any dogs with bairns whether there mine or someone elses ,p.s.most people can read there dogs behaviour but only if your there at the time atb Quote Link to post
