Shoot 0
OK, sat here contemplating a night out lamping. Just got a sprinkling of snow with more coming in. Are these good conditions to go out after Charlie ??? Quote Link to post
Night Hunter 109
OK, sat here contemplating a night out lamping. Just got a sprinkling of snow with more coming in. Are these good conditions to go out after Charlie ??? Round here the snow is too crunchy it sounds like your out with a batallion with tacky boots on,I had a walk round my permitions one night just to see where the foxes and roe had been if you know where you are likely to spot charlie you can then sit and wait because they do not half stick out in the snow ...but wrap up warm Quote Link to post
Deker 3,478
OK, sat here contemplating a night out lamping. Just got a sprinkling of snow with more coming in. Are these good conditions to go out after Charlie ??? In the short term not necessarily. In my experience just about all wildlife takes a similar view to the elements as we do, if it's really dire then lets stay at home. The fox WILL hoard and bury for the lean times, if he has supplies and they are not frozen beyond retrieval he will use them! The time will come regardless when he, and every animal has to find food, therefore lamping in the snow is not necessarily a waste of time at all. Can be very productive in areas of virgin snow and pretty easy to track things as well of course..can also be very unpleasant for the shooter at times too. Started to snow here again a couple of hours ago and about 40-50mm on the ground already..the BBC suggests 40cms by lunchtime tomorrow...I struggle to believe that much, but time will tell......and I'm about to have a hot dinner and bottle of wine...... ...Charlie is safe tonight!! bobthefox 0
Any night's good for charlie. We were out on sunday night, a few inches of snow, hard frost underneath and moon shining like a diamond. Still shot a charlie (though we spun the landy twice and slid to the bottom of a field!!) Go get 'em, always better than the rain! Quote Link to post

3jackwhite3 2
ive just come in now seen 3 foxes i let my mate shoot and he shot 1 and missed 1 and lots and lots of rabbits about, but when it starts to snow its so hard to see anything as the snow flakes reflect the light back at you and blinds you.
