is this rifle a trg /or sporting rifle ?

its a trg,the brake stays on wouldn't have thought a moderator would make much difference in that cal apart from wieght,that said quicksilver have or or going to bring 1 out for 338's and 50 cals so if you no anything about them feel free to share.I always apply for moderators to match the rifle to save the£20 if I apply for a variation.cant think were I saw that about quicksilver Im sure it was on here

wouldnt bother with a mod .ive used the .338 in the dtates .its an awsom bit of kit you need the brake on them youd never hold them on target otherwise mind dont forget the ear defenders the muzzle blast is something else ..garanteed tinitus .there a goog bit of kit 220 gn bullet with 70gns of powder .or theere abouts not to be fkd with there bloody accurate aswell 2ins at 600 isnt out of the way ....have fun

cheers rio giv that a try.what do u think on the mounts like you said a rum bit of kit,would you have a scope swap around are stick with it?1 last thing then I think we can put this to bed do you know any where for long range shooting lessons(over 650metres)Im safty 1st and would feel more confident going through that with an instructor.like I said Ive got land that can afford me 700metres and let me sleep easy practicing.the strange thing I have it on an open ticket but cant shoot it on a military range. trg

mounts take your pick its price ..anything that is suitable up to 50 cal ..apel ect ....shooting lessons ...ffs its a bit late you got it now if you got open its your choice !! got and play !!

125 grain nosler ballistic tips with 101 grains of rl22 means 3900 fps proper fox medicine!!

hear what your saying deka but never yet seen a trg with a mod .wouldnt be many mods good enough and being a high performance rifle the mod would reduce that performancre,,but yes the brakes aint friencly to bystanders

cheers dan that was goin to be my 1st choice on mounts but at £150ish for a picatiny rail for it I went for a sako 1piece mount instead only to find my PMII wont sit in it so went for a 2piece opti lock but theres no arrester for the recoil on them(tikka mount with the pin removed basicaly).realy like the NXS and its only 30mm tube but do you trade in? the schmit is a fine scope, or do you put it on another gun my choices of scope would be a 8 X 56 schmit a 2.5-10 X 56 schmit or a leupold LRT 6.5-20 X 50.the leo is on my 6.5 X55 and I quite like it but have read bad reports on them for such a cal.if youv'e been following this thread you'll have realised this f##kin gun has left me without a pot to p#ss in or window to throw it through,so would you swap the PMII or try the warne mounts without the picatiny?

you wont go far wrong with warn ,the sighting system has to be 100% or the rifle is usselless

I know my balls are still tingling from shooting prone in the next stall to a lad shooting 1,like ive said with the moderator always apply for them its cheaper for a 1 for 1 variation & I think its going to be a case of buy in haste repent at leisure.but like I say guns are a hobby been shooting from a kid and thank god as shooters we've still got some choice in what we buy and shoot,a responcibility & privlage I never take for granted.for the record Im a city lad my shooting grounds are in the middle of nowhere,the are some sympathetic forces out there.

Keep the pm11 and wait till you can afford the mounts if you chop any of it in be prepared to take a big hit cause all of that is specialist gear and their aint many peeps got the cash around at the mo to buy a trg42 think you should consider the mod though I have being shooting fallow at distance and because of the low report 1 can cull a number from a herd before they leave.

It would be considered a tactical rifle, not a target rifle as such, not in my book anyway!

 

.338 Lap Mag was not intended for target work and this rifle is used by some, law enforcement and military as well....

 

I suppose you could call it target work...but not the generally accepted sort of targets!!

like I said though I burn 101 grains of powder and I really value my hearing using the S7 means no ear defenders are needed to shoot my gun and the recoil reduction is most welcome too.

Ther are lots of mods about that will handle .338 and I would defiantly be looking at one.
