bobcullen79 1,495
Hi All... Ive just bought a Pat pup bitch just before christmas, from good working stock I hope.. Just wondering how old she should be before I can let her at rats? I want to get a small pack of friends older dogs (jacks and a 11 month old Pat) together but they have never worked either and Im kinda hoping my Pat will show them the way with time...I used to borrow the local Pat when I was a kid but this is my 1st dog and I want to go about this the right way.All help and input much appreciated,Happy Hunting...Bob Quote Link to post

I spose she/he was a bit of a puppy pedlar, seeing as they had about 4 plummers running round the garden,2 jacks and a big pen with my bitches mother, sister and 3 other various terriers. Most of the older dogs were marked round the face. Mum was now a breeder after facial reconstruction after she had her face bit off by a pig. She was the best I could find that wasnt miles away. I wont tell you what I paid cos it would probably make you choke. And she came with giardia free of charge! Quote Link to post
CcooneyMadDog 0
to hunt is in every terrier just some more than others, i think that its up to the terrier when he or she is ready. if you can, try catch a rat in a small cage if know where there is any or on the local farm, take the older dogs out and let them go crazy then let the rat off am sure they will chase it and catch it then kill it Quote Link to post

bobcullen79 1,495
Thanks for all the positive input lads, well encouraging. I bought some live catch rat traps the other week, and thats what I was goin to do,catch a few and get them all on a field and see what happens. Fern is shaping up good, just bought a HW95K package and whilst sighting in yesterday a carrion happend to land near the target so I had a quick calculation and lo n behold I hit it,pukka!only it was in full of the kitchen window and the mrs seen it. But long n short, been using the frozen crow as a fetch toy and shes been loving it,shes been munching it today. Shes goin on the BARF diet as soon as I can get out and catch it. Happy hunting,Rob. By the way the bitch,Fern is nearly 15 weeks. Quote Link to post
