Neal 1,867
Mine still go out in frozen conditions but there's no sighthound in them so their feet are ok (touch wood). Quote Link to post
wild rover 548
To run any dog on frozen ground is asking for trouble, their control is severely impeded and that goes for any dog not just the speed merchants, braking and turning can cause collisions and damage, where cattle or sheep have been in fields this leaves frozen hoof holes that can snap a dogs leg like a twig. Same with snow, snow covers a multitude of dangers, holes, broken trees, farm implements etc, before anyone says know your ground, fine but are you 100% sure, if not foolhardy to run them, wait until thaw, bummer yes, safe dogs defo. All the best. WR. Quote Link to post

poacher3161 1,766
Only fools and horses would run on frozen ground its not worth it especialy if a long eared one gets up with their fur cushioned feet to go even faster over hard ground all your lurcher will be left with is an empty mouth bleeding or brocken toes shredded stopper pads missing nails and god knows wat muscle and tendon damage. GET THEM OUT (.)(.) 39
i carry on mooching with my lot, and lamping when the ground is hard, , was going to go out last night but full moon, no wind, and snow i thought it would be best to leave it, , the ground or type of ground has never stopped me running my two bitches, they have never cut up yet, but they have feet like no other lurcher i have witnessed, , each to there own, Quote Link to post
bullmastiff 615
Well I took all the dogs out for just a walk late last night, kept Roo on his lead as he will start working as soon as you let him off and the last thing I need is another vet bill! The Moon came out from behind the cloud about 12.30ish but started warming slightly by about 1.00am, and it was almost like daylight with it reflecting off the frost. I love it when it's like this and it was almost completely silent apart from the crunching of the grass under our feet. We spent hours just pottering about the farm following animal tracks, it was great. It was a good night for scenting as well and the pup is showing some real interest and was following the tracks zigzagging across the field and some of the older tracks she was following were covered with frost so it shows her nose is working ok! She's 5 month's old now and is at that great age where she's starting to show a touch of maturity putting her head down and steadily following her nose everywhere to then suddenly jumping in the air spinning and running around like a loon just for the hell of it!
