cmallon 0
Any tips for getting a dog to jump a fence. my dog won't jump a fence or gate but will happily do a 5 foot wall. Quote Link to post
coursing mad 5
worst thing to start them on are walls mate, they will get used to putting there feet on top before they jump. you want a nice clean jump without the dogs feet getting cought up on barbed wire fences ect. how i do it is jump over the fence and walk away "bobs your uncle" tom !! cmallon 0
i got him 3 weeks ago and hes 18 months so already had bad habits. i tried the walk away technique and he squeezed under the fence insted of jumping and it was a small fence. should i just persovere with this technique? coursing mad 5
just find a fence he cant get under mate, it will take time but you will get there in the end. try pesuading him with some treats in your hand on the otherside of the fence. dont forget to reward him when he does eventunetly jump. good luck. ravenmoon 2
Any tips for getting a dog to jump a fence. my dog won't jump a fence or gate but will happily do a 5 foot wall. I had a similar problem with a collie X a few years ago, remedied it by chucking an old coat over the fence so she could not see through the fence, then followed it up by balancing a stick between fence posts to stop her using her back legs to spring off. Now she clears most things you would encounter in the field piece of cake. Edited January 3, 2010 by ravenmoon Quote Link to post
