TIMMAY 6
I think i posted a bit over a year ago about my then new lurcher pup being diagnosed with a heart murmour. The replies were very reassuring, and sure enough by the time she had her second set of jabs the (different from the first time) vet said couldn't hear anything wrong. Great! My dads old terrier died a couple of months ago, and as my father is disabled had spent alot of time with the dog he was absolutely devasted. So we got him a beddie pup a couple of weeks ago, and he loves it. Took it to have it's second set of jabs today, and her apparently 'strong heart' 2 weeks previously is now a scale 4 heart murmour, diagnosed by the the vet who diagnosed the lurcher pup, and managed to put the needle into the pup and out the otherside, and squirt the inoculation across the table! My dad was really worried, and i tried to reassure him that IF she has a murmour she'll probably grow out of it. So i was wondering do some vets have a hard on for diagnosing heart murmours all the time to prove their worth paying for a consultation or what? Either way one of the vets at the practice must be wrong! Edited January 2, 2010 by TIMMAY
Annmarie09 5
Heart murmurs are relatively common in pups and rarely serious, as they grow the murmur will usually go by 6 months or so. Perhaps you could get the pup checked again in a month or two, hopefully it will be gone. My vet of nearly 20 years did the same with my lurcher pup's first vaccination, he's never done it with any of my other dogs and we had a good laugh about it. Her skin was quite thin and she was pretty dinky so I wasn't really bothered. A good website for this is http://www.heartydog.co.uk/diseases/en/congenital.shtml maybe if you show it to your dad it will help put his mind at rest.
