So what your saying is you would take your dog the vet everytime it got bitten by a rat? Come on get real, thats what the dogs are for, unfortunate as it may be, its a rare occassion for human or dog to get infected with wiels, hardly warrents a trip to the vet after every bite. Shame about your dog mate, one of them things, atleast you can take comfort in knowing the dog died from the job it loved Quote Link to post
mwncidur 0
Our vet gives ours booster jabs every 12 months. The Lepto part of the jab is supposedly only good for 12 months protection, along with the para influenza part of the jab. The other stuff lasts longer, but is in the same jab so is boosted on a 12 monthly basis. Quote Link to post
natter79 17
it probably wasn't the bite that gave the dog weils, it was probably picked up from the surrounding area as leptospirosis is passed through the rat urine and less commonly the bite. chances are if your dog's working it could have picked it up anywhere the rats have been. best bet is to get some decent anti bac solutions and clean all open cuts and grazes as soon as the job is over. really sorry to here about your dog. atb natter Quote Link to post
