lamp+battery 98 Posted December 30, 2009 Report Share Posted December 30, 2009 (edited) just a question, my russel went to ground on a rabbit set the day and was in for a good 5/10 mins i wasent workin him just walkin him and he shot downi wasent far from home so ran back and got a spade and dug him out, what i want to no is if im goin to use him on fox should i let him go to ground on rabbits or keep him out im new to ground work so dont no if this is good or bad, it was his first time to ground so i no he isent scard ov the dark lol, any info would be more than greatfull cheers lamp Edited December 30, 2009 by lamp+battery Quote Link to post

lamp+battery 98 Posted December 30, 2009 Author Report Share Posted December 30, 2009 cheers for advice lads much appricated , it was the first ever time he as ever went to ground dingle, av only had him a week and the lad who i got him off has never had him to ground he only 14 month and just started bushin and markin realy mate i will get meself a collar for him, so would i not be able to work him on rabbits and rats if i was goin to use him on fox, am as green as grass when it comes to diggin av only ever had bushin and rattin terriers and that was years ago, cheers lamp Quote Link to post

They go insane when they smell a fox, and will do everything they can to get to it. They are insatiable for the fight. But I do agree that it is annoying to be hoping for a fox and dig down to a rabbit. Quote Link to post

waidmann 105 Posted December 31, 2009 Report Share Posted December 31, 2009 if you want an all rounder then so be it( digging for a rabbit included),you will soon learn to "hear" what quarry he is on( my terriers were far more excited/agressive with fox,badger and raccoon). either way you may need to dig him out. my pup is just starting to go to ground too,just over seven months( i shant send him but won't discourage it either,allthough i feel he is too young for "proper quarry")he seems to think not when you dug him out did it smell of fox? i would take the advice given above and get a collar on him.( if you have a mate that has a box you may be able to save that expense). atb with the pup( would like to see a pic) in the new year mate Quote Link to post
lamp+battery 98 Posted December 31, 2009 Author Report Share Posted December 31, 2009 cheers lads this is great readin, i got a mate with box so im goin to get me self a collar for him i will keep him away from rabbits then but still do a bit rattin, get him more bity if you get my meanin, fingers crossed i will have him out at the weekend and see what he thinks ov fox, mighty celt,, im dont no if it was or it wasent mate as iv worked that rabbit set with the ferrets for years and never put rabbits out, but he dident smell ov fox he just wouldent leave the hole i had to put him on the lead and walk him for a good 5 mins befor he would stop pullin back to get to the set, so hopefully will get a few pics up soon atb.....lamp Quote Link to post
