silentshot1 206
After the shock of my Wife taking me to the shop to pick up the my AA S410 TDR .22 yesterday, I figured I would share my thoughts on the gun and my first day of using it. Do bear in mind the only reference with another PCP I have, is a borrowed Webley Raider about 2 years ago, if I sound naive, it's because I am! Looks Lets be honest, unless you like utilitarian, erring on military, your not going to fall in love with this. Reminds me of a girl from Luton I once had a drunkard thing with, in good shape but not attractive. The carry case gives me that Bourne Ultimatum baddy feeling, coupled with putting it together, but I guess unless you need to hide the Gun packed down, which I don't, it's a bit gimmicky. BUT I LOVE IT! I have a mate who got so excited by the stripping and rebuilding of it, that he is stuck on the M25 as I write, desperate to play! Charging I knew nothing of this before hand and have discovered A) Why some go with air tanks, as appossed to a stirrup pump and that if you tuck 'it all' out the way, you are best off sitting on the handles on the way down, if you have wrist restrictions, like me. I have also discovered that should you get this wrong it hurts, Oh my God, it can hurt! Carrying My other main gun is an HW77k, I'm not He - man but in comparison it's like carrying a box of matches about! Loading A piece of cake, even without the instructions. First shots I first fired a shot at a zeroing target 30 yds away and I thought the pellet fell short, plus the pathetic little burp that came with the shot caused me to figure that the gun was duff and that that's why it was so cheap. I blew a stack (Quietly as it was 07.30 and people on the green behind the farm I was on get nervous about language), considered getting the HW77 out and stuffing this fangled PCP lark, then thought I'd have one last shot to be sure. Staggering!! The next three shots, although about two inches low, were clover leafed, without the aide of a rest. A few clicks up on the scope and using an old pig trough to lean on, it was shot on shot accurate and dead central, taking out the drawing pin I put in the centre, AND with a .22! It made my old Lightning XL .22 look like a blunderbus and I always thought that that was bang on accurate when tuned. 20 shots in all turned the bullseye of the target in to a ragged hole (I call it a Katie Price!) I reprieved the gun from it's sentence of being returned to the shop. I'm generous like that! In The Field I've always had a problem with being spotted when I'm waving the HW77 around, it's not the camouflage or lack of hide but the disturbance of the sheer effort required to shoulder the gun at less than 45 degrees for tree shots. The S410 TDR had no problems like that, it is a dream to hold both relaxed and at all three standard shooting positions. The gun is so well balanced that getting it to your shoulder and then on to target is like buttering warm toast! Easy! It's strange, holding up for any length of time and still having feeling in your legs with the gun rested on them, might take a while to get used to! Re cocking was a dream and the S410 magazine did exactly what I've read about so much on here. Considering the weather was throwing it down today and all but the bravest pigeons were hiding elsewhere, I had some terrific shots., All in all, I can't fault this gun in the slightest. It's nimble, simple, deathly quiet and comparatively effortless, it's awesome. I have 6 pigeon breasts downstairs in the freezer that are testament to it's success! Truly awe inspiring! I love it!! sibaldib 6
Excellent write up. It does look as though you've got a duff one there though, so I'd probably take it off your hands (to help you out) Cheers Sib Quote Link to post
