Pup, sapling or adult

Recommended Posts

As a youngster raised on books by Plummer I always read his comments on buying a trained or adult dog and believed that only people who were lazy or unable to train a dog bought adult lurchers or terriers. Thankfully I have grown up and developed my wifes ideas :icon_redface: .......sorry I mean my own ideas and if I wanted a dog and an adult became available I'd take it.

I was wondering how many of you that have owned memorable/great dogs have bought them as pups, bred them or taken them on as adults? Also when you have taken on an adult dog have you had any shockers :duh:

I sometime's find if you buy an adult dog you are also buying someone else's incompetance in training, but saying that a genuine dog person would offer a trial. In my experience i enjoy bringing a pup on and then you only have yourself to blame :icon_redface:

Depends if you need something to run with whilst bringing on a puppy............allso I dont believe that adult dog are untrainable, even if they have got "bad habits"........you can usually work through them..........

They may not end up perfect.........but there no reason they cant be as near as damit.

I think you need to try and suss out what the animals been through before it came to you.......that takes time.....then , and only then can you start to correct the problems JMHO

:11: :11: :11: :clapper: Your right Molly, gundogs are sold on at various stages of training, the same with sport dogs, trained dogs are imported for both breeding and competition and also dogs trained for security work. I can't have another dog at the moment but I have seen some of the adult dogs offered by people (turk, HBG) on this site who obviously work there dogs hard and think "i'd take that if I could"

P.S. Molly, i'll work on the CWA add :D

I'll take two Moll :11: It looks like you have managed to add to the mixture a blend of dogs that will complement each other although I would like a touch of wolfhound to add substance and size and bedlington or afghan for the soft coat  :signthankspin:
