hello hunting people a friend off mines bitch had five pups this morning and was just thinking as its cold,frosty,and raining we put a lamp on them i put it up at 27 inces in the shed so was just thinking what addvice my hunting friends would have

How tall is the bitch? You need to have the lamp at least a foot above the bitch when she is standing up.

its a patterdale and shes about 12 inces wizard

tell your mate to use his common sense put his hand under it where the pups will lie and raise it till he thinks the heat is about wright. also to the fella above raise it a foot above the bitch what if its a 27 inch grey the heat wont get to the pups if you put it a foot over her. there not thick they will move around it. if the pups huddle together in one spot underneath it its abot write if there spread about could be a little to hot. alb al

COMMEN SENCE ,i did use my commen sence thats why its 27 inces and not 7 inces r we would have 5hotdogs in the morning when i put my palm under on the floor it wasn to hot nor was it as cold as the shed would have been without it

good reply fence hopper the pups will let you know if theyre cold as they will all be huddled under the lamp, and the opposite if theyre too hot. generally a quiet pup is a contented one all the best dt

Make sure they are contained in a cardboard box or similar to cut any draughts as well. There is no point in heating them from above if the cold air can still get at them from the sides at floor level. Make sure the box is big enough for the pups and bitch to move away from directly under the lamp: I usually selotape a piece of cardboard across half the top of the box as bitches like to be slightly hidden when they've got pups and it will also help to shade them from the heat. You want to use something the size of a box which a small washing machine or similar would be packed in, and of course low enough for the bitch to get in and out of when she needs to.

 

Lastly, you should be able to sit under the lamp in just a T shirt (well, not JUST a t shirt but you know what I mean) and be comfortable: obviously if the bitch is a terrier you'd have to lie down under the lamp to get the right effect! LOL

cat i put he in a carboard box yesterday the box is 3 times the size off the bitch and cut a pice ova it so shud be ok , and as for the tshort thing il tell him coz my ring am i sitting under it there be pics off me on this site breast feeding the pups hahaha
