VALLEY HOUNDS 43
Snow is bad where i live so looking through old photos of past digs .This dig has got to be one of the hardest .After 6 and a half hours we finally got him and the quarry out .The dog was shattered and wasnt the only one. One very tired dog and proud owner Some of the stuff we ought to remove and dig around What we ought to remove to get dog out Quote Link to post

oyama 27
I had a dig in sand 2 weeks ago,on my own when a dog went in by accident (no collar).Only 5 feet, but took me 3 hours to get down. After the first 3 foot,it went quiet.I thought she was dead, but she closed in.fortunatly got dog out safe. Her eyes were a state. My only 2nd time in sand,1st time ended sadly.I hate sand! Rabbit Hunter 6,613
Two digs from this season to the same dog, first one was 7ft through hard clay, second one was 15ft through sand but kept caving in so a JCB was needed... Quote Link to post

dogs-n-natives 1,182
I think the hardest dig for me was last season on my own, Scrumpy entered an old earth early one morning, and after a search with the mk1 I found him at about 5 foot. Set away, and quickly hit problems, it was like compacted hardcore, bedded in clay, and the shovel was not making progress.... after about 3 hours of sweating, I decided to jog back to the van to get my pick and graft, on my return I set away again, starting to slowly inch my way down, a few hours later popped through, on the dogs back as darkness was aproaching... ive never been so phisically tired from a dig. The hardest for one of my terriers was probably when Scrumpy entered an old quarry, and it took him 3 days to kill his fox (or foxes?) He came out in a bad way, but made a good recovery. Another dig to Scrump, we had dug all day through rocks, from dawn till dusk just about, when we lifted him and his dead fox out, he went limp and fell to his side. Quote Link to post
