Marsho 0
Hi, I have a seven month old beddy lurcher bitch , everything going well with the training , sit heal etc but just in the last couple of days if she spies another dog at the other side of the park/field, she runs over and takes no notice of my commands to come to heal or return, once she has had a sniff and a bit of a play, she returns, obviously I cannot punnish her or she thinks it is for returning. But how can I get her to stop this before it escalates, cheers David. Quote Link to post

ASME IX 1
this is a stage in a pups life that could be make the dog or make your life real hard and frustrating depending how you act.first thing you dont want to do is start screaming and shouting at the pup as it goes to investigate, say the dogs name and use your command for him to return(loud and firm dont bother about people looking at you as if you mental or insane)also dont punish the pup on its returnfor ignoring your command.it will think it being punished for returning to you. the main aim is to get the pups attention and get him to think its a far better game to be with you, this isnt always an easy thing to do as the pup may be running around his new found friends like a lunatic, totaly ablivious to you and every thing around you. most pups see other dogs/people and want to go see whats happening. my own method is give a 1 loud command and if no joy then go get the pup,as you aproach dont be tempted to keep saying here boy/girl here, heal, noooo, hey come here ,for f**ks sake stuppid mutt get here.just go to him as calmly as posible put him on the lead walk away, the pup will try to pull back towards his her new friends, this is when you reinforce the commands you need.remember only give the command once. hope this helps. asme9 Edited December 29, 2009 by ASME IX Quote Link to post
