here's numbers from my scope:

 

3-12 x 56

 

First two numbers are magnification (this ones variable) and the second is the size of the objective lens. This ones 56mm. The bigger the objective lens, the more light it lets in. Typically for low light shooting.

Hello, example on my scope it say's 8x56, my scope is fixed 8 x magnification, and 56 is the objective lens. the 56 lets in more light and is good for Dawn or Dusk shooting, as the last guy said

mine is 3x9x50 the 3 is three times magnification the 9 is the zoom 9x zoom the 50 is the objective lens the end of the scope.
