shell 42
Today we brought home a new pup (the terrier x spaniel) and this evening we lost our lurcher pup. I'm absolutely devastated. We brought p***y home 8 months ago. We waited 7 years for this pup. A real old fashioned Norfolk type lurcher that hadn't seen any infusion of running dog for 40 years. As line bred as they come. The sort of dog that would be quite happy living under a vardo, hence the name, 'p***y'. That licked your kids faces and retrieved chickens for you. A great temperement, good with the other dogs, with us, and with the nipper ( although she didn't really like getting beaten up with a balloon from Brewster Bear, yet she tolerated it!) She went to work with Malc (hubby) every day, along with our other lurcher, Atol. Over the last couple of months there wasn't a day went by without him coming home with a rabbit or two. By 10 month she must have caught 30 rabbits (with the help of Atol). Retrieving like a good one, obediant and pleasant. A pleasant bitch to own, and to look at. She lived up to her name, and stole often - whether it was her tea off the kitchen worktop or scraps of food out of the bin. Biddible, great with the other dogs, and great with stock. 10 months old, showing excellent promise for the future. Out for a walk this tea time with the other lurcher and the Borders, coursing a rabbit, she smashed her back leg badly in 4 places above her knee. Malc carried her home on his shoulders. I was bathing the baby when he came in and shouted that he had to take p***y to the vets as he thought she's broken her leg. I came down, gave her a fuss, and went back up to finish the bairn off. Malc came home 45 minutes later, and said she'd gone. The vet said she'd never run again it was that badly smashed. Old fashioned vet without any agenda. Told Malc how it was without any bulls**t. Malc brought her home. I said my goodbye but it was heartbreaking. He burried her on the moor near where we live. Next to where our old Border, True, was burried not so long ago. Only a pup, only a baby... her whole life ahead of her. Now hunting in the hunting ground in the sky. Malc says theres an old saying, that when you cross the river stix, that all your hunting dogs are waiting for you to carry on the great chase. I hope this is the case, and she's waiting for us to join her. In the meantime, she's with old True, and happily hunting the moor that they both loved to hunt. I've only got a few photos of her, one or two attached to this message. Didn't think she'd go this young. I'm absolutely devastated, Malc doesn't shed a tear very often, but tonight he did. How can life be so cruel? Sleep tight p***y. Only a baby, but you'll never be forgotten. Shell and Malc Quote Link to post

Guest Ditch_Shitter
That's f***in evil, Shell. The worst nightmare of anyone who lets a Dog off its lead. Stunning looking bitch too. I know the pain will pass. But I know too she'll always remain in ye hearts. Ye'll always have moments when ye'll pause, reflect; Think of what might have been. Yes. We can only hold onto the hope that, one day, we'll all be together again. Happy, bouncy Dogs, wagging their tails as they leap up to greet us once more. My sincerest condolences to yeself and Malc'. Guest Gregg Barrow
Dealing with rescues as the wife and I do, the only bright side we can find is; p***y packed more living into eight brief months, more then many dogs get the opportunity to enjoy in a lifetime. Little consolation, I know. She was Beautiful! and we are terribly sorry for your loss. Sincerely, Gregg and Soo Quote Link to post
