dunns2 0
Hi there, could any one help please? I have a rat problem in my garden, they re living in burrows in the garden, if i fill them in they simply just dig another hole. I have tried lots of bait they just eat and eat it, i have 2 live cages and have caught 3 or 4 this way, but its very slow. In the early evening you can see them comming out and i currently have a BSA meteor .177cal riffle, i have shot a couple from the window approx 25 foot away, but im sure the gun isnt powerfull enough, can any one help please? Is this gun the right thing to shoot rats? or should i use a .22 riffle? Can any one help please?? Thanks Edited December 27, 2009 by dunns2 Quote Link to post

Thanks i had the same problem this year with all the rain we have had. i couldnt put ferrets down so i tried to shoot them but failed so the nexted best thing was ferret sh-t under sheds and around the edges thats seemed to do the trick for the min. dont put alot of food down only give what they will eat in 5 mins if nessery top the food bowls up. trapper123 7
make some holes in a tin of sardines or cat food, you must then stake it down securely and then pic them off at will when they starts licking the tin i have shot loads this way but you must stake your bait down atb trapper Quote Link to post

dunns2 0
Do you think the gun is capable of shooting them at that range ?? Or should i upgrade it to at .22 if so any one know which model/make is the best one to get? Thanks Quote Link to post
nod 285
BSA Meteor has about 8.5 ft lb when in good nick that is more than enough to kill a rat Quote Link to post
pointer 543
i do a bit of rat shooting with air-rifles,ive shot about 700 or so this year, but every year when the crops come down at the back of my house a few rats find there way into my garden.so i just kill them with fenn traps........i enjoy shooting rats,i love hunting them with dogs, but my own garden is too close for comfort and half a dozen traps set around my chicken run and each side of my lawn has them sorted sharpish. shooting is effective, poison can be effective but fenn traps are fecking deadly and they are on duty 24/7 Quote Link to post
hawkhigh 2
hi mate you and 1000's of other people that are having aproblem Try taken bird feed away and any other food sors And to let you know to kill a rat with bait you need 150+gr of bait aweek and a good 7day feed of that bait for it to work.. if you are feed the birds stop and give it a 4/5days and then start baiting it will work better. the rat need's 3 things water, some where to live and food so that food is got to be your food can't stop him from getting water or living under the shed or in the loft but you can control his feed Good Luck Quote Link to post

killa-combo 142
had this problem to i shot and trapped them dog was even getting them but there were more and more coming from some allotments that had been knockd down,i ended up puting the hose pipe down the holes when it was icey froze the dirty fuckers havent seen one since. i found puting some bait in a piece of drain pipe laid on the floor so you are able to see down it to shoot them from a distance away was best way with a gun to get good numbers.. if that doesnt make sense its because its late and im nackerd lol Quote Link to post
dunns2 0
Iam in Berkshire - Newbury...I donr have any bird feed or any food in the garden at all. I have live cages and also a devise that frys them, iam worried about snap traps s they might get the local cat or birds etc? Thats why was hoping to shoot them with a riffle from the window, but i dot think my gun is up to it, whts the best one to get with out spending silly money? Thanks Quote Link to post
killa-combo 142
use a flat headed pellet or a hollow point, and either go for where the front legs join the body or the head, hit them any where else and they scarper Quote Link to post
santons 2
Same problem here, as said earlier buy a couple of Fenn Traps but make sure you have them enclosed in a tunnell of some sort to make sure you dont catch the local moggie (it is also required by law). If you havent used Fenns before be really, really bloody carefull when you set them make sure the safety is on until you are ready. Quote Link to post
OldTrapCollector 377
I would suggest calling in the professional services of a pest controller before they take up residence in your house ... OTC Quote Link to post
