Hardfeather 56
Hi all good night for a shine so thought I'd take the pup out for a spin round a couple of fields out the back of mine, the few rabbits I see about are jumpy as f**k this year, which all became apparent when I met two blokes in a land rover with a rimfire who say they have permission on mine,we'll soon f****n see about that!Told them the estate manager would like a word with them to which they replied oh really,no trouble I hope  I wasnt about to tell them he wants them off the place, thanks to me :11: .Anyway back to it,got a couple of nice sitters for the pup he got on terms with both of them even over running one but just didn't quite strike right,he's 12 months so theres plenty of time in my opinion to get him squared up it probably my fault slightly ,I could be spending more time with him than I am doing at the moment, you only get out what you put in .then as I was walking round one of the fields I could feel on his slip that he wasn't moving right,if I'd been on a horse he was what I would call twisted,a bit like cramp in his back leg,is this a fitness thing, something I should prepare for or should I be strapping him down after,I'm guessing its a build up of acid in his muscle as he's ok now, tell me where I'm going wrong lads. Anyway my walk took me back past my cottage so I dropped the pup off and took the bitch out, again I should have been spending more time with her than I have she's not as fit as I'd like as till I've been off this last week I've been working flat out,no excuse I know but I haven't had time to bike her like I did do other years and it shows, all in all though she's as keen as ever and will get fitter as time goes on,she had a couple of silly misses tonight partly my fault and partly hers,I can only hope to be as good as some others on here but I'm learning all the time and if I have as good a season this year with her as I did last I'll be happy, she's a real fun dog and keen to please though she's not to keen on retrieving or me having the rabbits at all as Millet will tell you(it took me and him to get a rabbit off her we nearly called for a breaking stick lol).Well sorry if I've rambled on a bit folks and missed out loads of punctuation and I hope I havent given the impression I don't spend time with the dogs I do I just haven't put that bit extra in that makes the difference due to time, but I certainly will from now on,the conclusion three rabbits and no hunting up,not bad for a little rescue job who'd been sitting on a couch in Gloucester till I had her and she's loving every minute of it,thanks for you time cheers chris Quote Link to post

Guest lady hunter
Thats a nice looking bitch, she is very similar to my bitch, mines a little heavier in build, this will be her first season,so cant wait to get started, had e few rabbits with her, whats the breeding of your bitch, and that is a build up of acid you were talking about, we normally boil some pearl barly a couple of times then the last boil keep the water back, and give to the dog before you go or after you get back, we normally give it to ours after , and touch wood it seems to be doing the trick, give it a go p.s we have also been told that tomatoe juice also works , but ours wouldnt drink it for love nor money.
