rescue?

Recommended Posts

Still on the look out for a new dog to be my new companion for abit of ferreting / bit of lamping but manly just general mouching . Iv'e looked on here and the internet in general nothing yet but the other day i saw a loverly whippet at the lurcher rescue but i know the woman that runs it wont let me have it as she knows i do a bit of work with it . Even though i would never get rid of a healthy dog ive got one know a chocolate lab i bought for retriving six years ago (so far he's retrevied one pigion) so the dog would have a very good home but she has the dog and who she sells it to is up to her . If only she could see a dog "on point" when the ferret is down and then tell me that dog is not happy

I also tried to buy a whippet or whippet cross from a large rescue centre local to me but was refused. The reason being the dog was gonna be kept in a large purpose built pen on a monday and tuesday when the wife was at work. I was made to feel inadequate by the rescue worker as if I couldn't give the dog a good life. I then made the decision to go and buy a pup locally out of the paper!

Yes definately, I know they have a duty to make sure the dogs they release are going to a good home but they're making it too hard for the potential new owners. Don't get me wrong, im over the moon with the pup I bought and with its progress so far, but it would of been nice to give one of the young dogs cooked up in their kennels a good working home.

have you tried lurcher link mate? they allow dogs to go to working homes and a friend of mine does vetting for them.A secure garden and local vet is two of the requirements you need.A woman who comes to my racing comes with dogs up for adoption and they have some belters.I would definately take a gamble on one

we got our germansheppard x collie from a rescue and was bloody annoying. the firs place we went to said we where no good as i was in the army and they didnt like the dog moving every few years, the next place we went to thought it would be great that the dog could travel all over the world lol.

this was 7 years ago, we thought not long ago about getting another dog from a rescue but we where unsuitble, because we both work lol, they would not let us have the dog as it would be left alone during the day. (but one of us can always get home at lunch to let them out etc) they said that was unaceptable lol, so by the sounds of it they want unemployed or people who work from homes, and they wonder why it is hard to rehome dogs. both our dogs get treated like royalty. apart from the gsd as my bitch is in heat so he is constanlty getting kicked out to the kitchen to cool down lol.

I run my own rescue and have no issue what so ever homing to working homes. I will still do a homecheck- its part of my adoption BUT priority is that the dogs are happy, well cared for and have a fulfilled life.

I will ALWAYS take back a dog.

I work full time- rely on my neighbours to come let my dogs out during the day- its hypocritical of me to deny people who work a dog. I also have friends whos dogs live outside- they have a secure double skinned kennel and are kept on wheat straw. They are both 11 yr old collies and look about 6.

So please don't judge all rescues the same. There's a cracking bull x in the kennels at the minute- but he's been given a beating & really timid so it put people off. The lurchers & greys are getting dumped again because the seasons finished.

Not all rescues are blinkered & think that only a dog living in a house is happy. Some of the most nervous & beaten dogs we get have come from so called 'decent' homes.
